9/29 2008 Drift Wood package II with preferred accessory kit at Gresham toyota $22,917 plus L+T ($218) for a total of $23,135
2007 with package #2 - bought it three weeks ago from Koons Toyota in Westminster, MD $22, 559 + 100.00 dealer fee + 195.00 tag fee + 1,128 taxes for a total of $23,982
Last week my family bought a 2002 with 12,500 miles for $11,000. Their asking price was $14,000, but they had lured us in with a fake ad on Craigslist that said it was 10. They acted as if I had read it in a fiction novel, until I whipped out my laptop and showed them. They then started telling lies like "oh yes that one's sold, it actually had 75,000" all the while my mother accusing them of Bait'n'switch and telling them they where dishonest people. Even the color was wrong. I bitched and bitched and bitched, continually demanding to know why the ad said this that and the other thing, and the dealer's tongue finally slipped and he said "Oh yes, there WAS one like that, but it sold 6 months ago". Of course I immediately asked if we could have an almost identical one that they Just So Happened to have lying around for 10 and they said "Of Course not". I put on an expression of anguish and disgust and said "11". (at this point my mother produced a premeditated groan of "ohhhh, our budget was 10" and I groaned back...) We settled on 11.
Another two thumbs up for Acton Toyota in Acton, MA. Steve was awesome. Seaside Pearl #5 $24,556 $50 title. $36 new plates (our old ones were destroyed when our 2004 was totaled) $185 documentation, registry running, a wash, a wax,and a full tank of gas. $29 first MA state inspection. $388 Sirius satellite kit/install (gotta have Howard) $1,247 Sales tax $26,491 An additional $1060 for the extended warranty, which we rolled into the loan (would have gotten it from Troy, but the one stop convenience for an extra $70 or so wasn't a deal breaker)
Congratulations on your new prius! I am also looking at Acton Toyota. Did you pay $1060 for the 7/75k extended warranty? thanks <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Prinux @ Sep 30 2007, 07:36 PM) </div>
<div align="left"><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(fojae @ Oct 1 2007, 11:21 AM) </div> Platinum protection policy.... 7/100k. We told Acton that Greenfield was doing it for $990. (Troy quoted my husband that price over the phone). Peter at Acton thought it over, and said, "That's a really good deal. We can do it for $1060, if you want to roll it in to the financing. Otherwise I'd say you're not going to beat $990." So we did. Acton had been good to us, and it was easier that way. shoe</div>
So I did it, thanks to all of you and the great tips I read here and on Edmonds. I was getting a little out there know what i mean the time on the sites, talking to fleet folks, taking notes etc. It was a challenge and a little fun. So I live in the "OC" and had to keep up lolo had 2 jags before this pruis.......the last one got old with gas prices $75 a week. So enough background.... I started out wanting a touring pk. 6 07. Did my home work and switched to basic pk. 4. 9/22/08 did the deal flew up and drove out. 08 pk. 4 invoice $24,074.00. Sold it to me $23,707.00 otd= 25,848.30. Black tan inside. Was told no 4 to so. ca. in o8. No 5 or 6 pks. to No. Ca. in 08. So my fleet manger is was Harmid Concord Toyota in Concord.,ca. He was extremely professional, to the point, no idle chit chat, picked me up at the airport, test drove it , went over everything in the car on 2 occasions, asked that I telephone when I got home as it was a 6 hour boring in the rain drive. The price he quoted the first time we spoke was excatly what I paid. I highly recommend the dealer and Hamid. I plan to trick my pruis out, tinted dark windows, shark thing, leather seats and chrome /black wheels. p.s. I spent about 3 months on this little project of buying a Pruis. I love the gas mileage. thanks again, hope the info I'm passing along will help someone "TO JUST DO IT"!!
This is just a general comment. Comparing car prices is all but impossible with out the details. At the very least you post should include the following 1 ) Year and Model 1220 Standard 1224 Base 1226 touring 2 ) all factory packages and options including mats etc 2 ) All dealer or distributor installed option (floor mats, toyoguard, tinting, pin stripes, auto mirror etc) 3 ) State where purchased (important because Toyotas sold in the south east pass through a distributor called S.E.T. that adds a $55 transport and $639 Administration B*** S*** fee to every Toyota) 4 ) final sale price 5 ) Dealer fees, variously called document fees, dealer administration fees, ADM added dealer margin fees etc Tax and title are not relevant since these differ from state to state and even county to county and more importantly they are the same at any dealer in your area. ( one exception. some dealers roll extra profit into the title fee) --------------------------------------- Here is an example of what I have been quoted in Orlando Florida 2008 1226 touring Package #2 self dimming mirror CM50 Floor and trunk mats painted pin stripe window tint dealer protection pack (like toyoguard) Sale price $23,366 dealer fee $700 Before sales tax and tag 24,066 (this included the S.E.T. $55, $639 and all dealer fees) Personal note: 17 years in Florida and 14 extended family cars later this Prius will be our first non Honda all because I refuse to pay the the S.E.T. bogus mark Up. Toyota wake up and give the boot to Jimbo at South East Toyota.
New poster/new owner/bought car 5 days ago 2008 standard model 1224A $22,325 Pkg 2 575 Pref. Acces pkg (no choice) 277 destination charge 660 MSRP 23,837 internet price 22,725 ADD document fee 55 license fee 30 CA tire recycling fee 8.75 TOTAL OTD $22,818.75 delivered to Reno, NV (for free) Bought from Greg Slaughter at Magnussen's Auburn Toyota, done over the internet and phone. When I talked to local dealer (Carson City, NV) and told them the price they said "that's a good price, buy it." LOVE the car! LOVE the color! (Spectra Blue) LOVE the mileage! <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Prinux @ Oct 1 2007, 10:43 AM) </div>
Before you try to price match with your local dealer, please read the following link. Hopefully you will not jeopardize the great offer from Troy for the rest of us. http://priuschat.com/Discounted-Toyota-Pri...acts-t3130.html
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(DGH @ Oct 3 2007, 09:23 PM) </div> Sorry, I don't think I explained myself well. My bad. I didn't mention PriusChat at all, or that we saw the offer on the 'net. See, our previous Prius had ITS protection policy through Greenfield, so when my husband called for a quote (once again, not mentioning to Troy we were on Priuschat, just that we needed to cancel our old plan and get a new one), and Troy quoted $990, we figured that it must be what he offered for repeat buyers as well.... So I thought it was fair game. It seemed fair to let Acton try to match it, since we actually *weren't* extended a Priuschat offer. So neither Priuschat, nor Troy directly, came in the conversation with the dealer. Honestly, I think the most we told them was the Toyota of Greenfield did our last one. I'm not even entirely sure we told them it was Greenfield was offering the 990 this time around... Sorry for any confusion/if something was out of line. Certainly not my intention. shoe
Purchased a Brand new, 2008 Prius with Package #2 in Orange County, CA MSRP: $23,837 Selling Price: $22,370 + TAX/License Total: $24,369.69 OTD Included Extras: OEM Toyota Bumper Guard and 1 free oil change @ 5K
Picked up a blue '08 Option 6 for $27,734 with only a two day wait. I've been wanting one for awhile, and I just love it!
I just bought my first Prius (and first Toyota ever). I bought the car through a local broker out here in the Bay Area called Cartelligent and it was a very smooth, hassle-free process. The broker's fee was $500, and here's the car I got (ultimately from San Francisco Toyota): 2008 base model (not touring), silver, package #6 Vehicle price: $26,047 Doc prep fee: $55 Electronic filing fee: $28 Ouch painful CA state tax: $2,153 License and registration fees: $234 OTD price: $28,518
Hi all, Great forum, thanks for all the helpful tips and advice. Last night we put a deposit down on a 2008 Prius that will arrive from the port tomorrow. Dublin Toyota 2008 Base - Super White / Gray Interior (FE11) Package #5 Floor and trunk mats Wheel Locks Rear Bumper Applique Invoice: $24,785 Selling Price: $24,900 8.75% sales tax, title, license OTD: $27,375 Extras: 1 detailing and 2 tanks of gas (after we give him a good survey). (We also put $5000 down on a 1% cash back credit card, so we get $50 back). I've been emailing Alameda, Berkeley, Walnut Creek, Fremont, Hayward, Stockton, Tracy, and Dublin. Hayward started the bidding war and continuously had lowest price, but they only had a white with a bisque interior, so Dublin matched their price with the car we wanted. My only regret is missing the $787 tax credit, but we didn't even know we wanted a Prius 3 weeks ago. Overall, I'm pleased with my first new car purchase ever.
Florida Bear in mind when you compare my prices that in the South East we get screwed for the following Middle Man Markup by a distributor called S.E.T. $639 South East Toyota (SET) regional states: Administration Fee for NC, SC, GA, AL and FL . $55 South East Toyota (SET) regional states: Destination Charge NC, SC, GA, AL and FL. ---------------------------------- 2008 Prius Touring Silver Pine Mica dark gray interior with package # 2 and factory carpet/trunk mats. 22,731.00 Car price (calculated backward explained below) 749.50 Dealer service fee 199.50 Doc fees 24.00 State title Electronic filing fee 1.50 State Battery disposal fee 5.00 State Tire disposal fee 23,710 Total Sales Price 1447.64 State sales tax 2.00 State lemon law fee 36.35 Florida State title and plate fee 25196.62 Total out the door The car was purchased through the Costco Auto Program The deal worked this way Call Costco and they will give you the name of a contact person at the dealership. Choose exactly what options you want on your car. Dealer and or distributor added stuff like Toyo Guard can be eliminated. They subtract $1,000 from the Toyota MSRP sticker price for that car plus they do not charge any dealer service or doc fees. In the prices I gave above, they show that fees were charges but in reality they calculated backward to get the Car price because as they put if the fees are pre printed on the sales contract and they have to show them. In any case, the effect from my stand point was the same as the final discount cancels out the fees. The Toyota window MSRP sticker price was 24,755 including 660.00 factory destination and the S.E.T. 55.00 distributor designation fee. The slight discrepancy if any of you actually add the above up comes from the fact that there were not supposed to be any carpet mats and I agreed to take them if they dropped the price 75.00 to match what I knew I could get them for online. Sorry for boring you with all that but for a first time Toyota buyer in Florida this might be useful. I worked hard with every dealer within 90 miles of me and none would come close to the Costco deal. I tried their INTERNET departments with many back and forth phone negotiations. I also went into several of these dealers and worked through a traditional sales man and I tried e-mail, (which incidentally did not always go through the INTERNET department) Originally I used Edmund's and other invoice sources to calculate the Dealers true cost including Toyota's 2% hold back. I added $800 to what I calculated was the dealers true cost for the car and made that my final offer but none would go for it unless I accepted $800.00 to $1000.00 in dealer fees as well. In the end the Costco Deal was only a few dollars away from my price. I can recommend the Costco program 100% plus we also get a $50 gift card in the mail later and if you use your Costco American express card (they let us charge $8000 to the card) you get a 1% or $80 kickback. I think that covers it...
