I have not had my Prius very long which I bought second hand. I have noticed that at night the instrument panel display i.e. speedo, fuel etc which is displayed in green is very dirty with smears all over it. During the day this doesn't notice.
I have cleaned the vertical display you look at and the glass in the dash but I can still see it particularly when I look through the windscreen at the glass in the dash.
How difficult is it to get to the inside of this glass? It seems like I would have to take the whole dash out.

Thanks for any advice you can give.

You say that you've cleaned the "vertical" display. Did you also clean the flat portion?

Forgive me if I'm being too obvious here, but the heads up display that you see is merely a reflection of a display that sits flat below where you see the display. I just want to make sure that you clean both locations.

Yes, I have cleaned both - twice. Interestingly, when I look through the windscreen from outside and look at the true display it does look dirty but on the inside which I cannot get at. That is why I assume I have to take the dash out to get at it.

I just came back from the dealership with the same problem (worse actually, as I tried prying out the acrylic semi-clear panel to clean the back side and it broke) and they tell me you have to remove the instrument panel to replace that panel. I just came on the website to see if that is really the case but it appears from your post that it is! If anyone knows otherwise, please jump in, but Toyota wants 3 hours labour to replace the acrylic panel and about $98 for the part. An expensive fix to for a dirty piece of plastic.

Yes, it is true that you have to take the whole dash apart to replace that piece. If you have pulled portions of the dash apart before (e.g. install XM radio, etc.), it's not much harder than that. Just two tricky things to unclip: The rear of the glove box and the trim covering the A-pillars...

    Cheers,
