Has anybody had trouble getting the small back window tinted? I have had a company say because it's plastic they were afraid to put too much heat on the window, so they wouldn't tint it.
it's plastic?! Hmmm. When I did my tint I purposely did not tint the lower glass (plastic?) since it was already tinted darker than the upper. By tinting the upper back window it balaced the view out the back.
Are we talking about the lower rear window (in the hatch) or the small side window at the rear? If you mean the lower rear window, why would you want to tint it? It's already tinted quite dark from the factory.
The few prius owners I know that have had their windows done have also had the small one done as well (including me.) It is a pain to tint, they are probably just trying to get out of doing it.

When we tinted the upper (bigger) window 20% it was quite a bit different from the smaller bottom window. They put the tint on that window, but didn't heat it up enough, so it wrinkled a lot. They took it off and said because it's plastic, they were afraid to heat it up any more. Does anybody know if this is plastic?

It is marked Temperlite DOT-20 same as the side windows. If it has heating elements in it is is glass. Tell them to check the marking on the glass.

Why are they applying heat?????? Tint is applied with windex and a fil that has been pre-rteated with a moisture activiated adhesive. It its then allowed to air dry for about 2-3 days. Lower window tinted same darkness as upper window.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Devil's Advocate @ Sep 24 2007, 03:09 PM) </div> That's what they said...I'll ask them. Oh Year, checked inside the car and the driver side back window had two scratches on it. They said it was probably the squeegee. This company has installed tinted windows in our last two vehicles without any problem. We are supposed to take it back on Thursday to get that replaced..I'll ask about the heat then.
i thought they used a "hair dryer" thingy when applying window tint?????? that's why all the warnings about being so carful around the doors because of the plastic thingy!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(seasalsa @ Sep 24 2007, 11:13 AM) </div> I know....I must have misunderstood my husband when he told me what the company said.
Definetly tint both rear windows, upper and lower. It may not seem like it but if you don't the two windows will not look the same. I had 25% put on the rear windows and the upper and lower appear almost identical. Even if they applied heat with some type of hair dryer, or heat gun, it couldn't be that much. Tint is a pretty flimsy and weak material. I can't image heat damaging even a "plastic" window, which I don't believe the Prius window is, and not the tint itself. Also, are you getting the little windows in front and the rear done. Make sure they don't tell you they can't. All the windows, depending on state law, can be tinted.
I had all of my widows tinted including the lower rear one. The guy that was doing it insisted it wouldn't look right unless he did it also. He had me sit in the car and look after he had done the hatch window and he was right.
I went to WalMart and bought the 'self cling' black tint. ..and yes I applied it the small plastic rear window.
oh . i got mine tinted. cause i got 10% all around and it was lighter . so i got it professionally done. and they did it .
