There was a whole write up about the state of our seafood industry in National Geographic. There's an area, I forget where, that they placed a full moratorium on fishing. At first the fishermen were opponents of this moratorium. Then they witnessed the tremendous rebound in their yields surrounding this area. Now they are advocates of this policy and actually do some policing of the area. This isolated place made it possible for the fish stock to replenish themselves and with this arose a myriad of other benefits. I think even the coral gained positive benefits, if I remember correctly.

Provide protected spawning areas or release any fish that are of reproductive age. I think that would be a huge benefit.

Next time you pass by on your way to L.A., let me know and I'll take you to my favorite sushi joint. Actually, there are two of them, across the street from each other. At the "traditional" one, the chef alone decides what you eat and in which order.

This link mentions privatized hatcheries used to supplement wild fish stocks. I'm hoping that the related diseases don't transfer to wild populations. Or maybe, these hatcheries release their fish before stressors and diseases become prevalent.
