How many keys with 2006?

Two.

 

... and it will cost you $$$ to get an extra fob programmed.

 

Be super weary! I think the prius is only capable of accepting 4 or 5 fobs. After which I don't know what is required to reset it (ie reset the prius, throw out existing key and buy 2 new fobs!?)

Milhouse, all my warning lights are lit. Why is she selling? How does the interior look? Is the interior plastic scratched up? It should have had 1 oil change. There should be a minimum number of scratches & dings. Are 4 floor mats & a mat for the deck included? If you post a list of options and asking price you may get a more informed response. The only loose pieces I can think of are: glove box tray, center console tray, spare tire tie down straps, small storage bay cover (left side of rear deck). Two smart keys and two thin metal tags with some numbers inprinted on them. (one is only about 3/4x3/8 inch, the other a 2" key shaped tag)

The whole thing of having two keys is, of course, if one key gets lost or there will be two regular drivers of the car. The tags have code numbers for that particular car. This smart key is a pricy little item... you should get the keys or call off the sale.

If the previous owner is that unconcerned about the keys... then what else was neglected? Save yourself some headaches.

if your paying what the lexus dealer offered in trade your are probably getting a good deal. Get a replacement key from toyota, what are we talking $1,000 bucks? Maybe you should tell us the package and what your paying.

 

Don't know the prices in your area, but after saying that, the price sounds reasonable. The full deal package new is around $28,000. The Prius doesn't depreciate rapidly.

If you want a second fob it will cost around $400 including programming. I've seen posts where people have gotten them for as little as $250 programmed. Depends on how greedy the dealer is. You can have up to 4, as I recall, programmed into the car. When they program in a new one, they can erase the old ones (for safety). Be aware, if you don't have a working fob it will cost a lot more to program a new one. I've seen $1000 mentioned. So it's good to have a working spare.

The glove box tray mentioned above is a shelf. If it's installed you wouldn't think of it as a tray, just a shelf. It's in the upper glove box.

 

Another warning to add -- Be sure that the FOB has the small mechanical key attached to it. This is used to allow you to open the driver's door if you loose power. (Not sure if it also opens rear hatch. (On my Camry Hybrid, it opens the trunk.)

The only keyhole on the Prius is on the driver door. The hatch can only be opened by either pressing the button under the lip of the trunk with Smart Key FOB in range or pressing the FOB unlock button twice. This also means you cannot open the trunk from outside if you have a dead 12V battery.
