I just saw a news piece about a woman who believed she had an image of the virgin mary on the crust of her grilled cheese sandwich. (not kidding)
Yep! Here's a pic: [Broken External Image]:http://i.a.cnn.net/cnn/2004/US/11/16/ebay.sandwich.ap/story.sandwich.jpg It was listed on ebay and got bid up to $22,000 before ebay pulled it. The seller complained and ebay allowed bidding to resume. The current bid is now $99,999,999. CLICK HERE Now, if you do a search on ebay for "virgin mary grilled cheese", you'll wind up with over 100 hits.........a lot of pretty funny stuff.
See, I think the picture looks more like Jean Harlow than the Virgin Mary: [Broken External Image]:http://www.jeanharlow.com/images/photogallery/jean05.jpg Therefore, this is probably worth closer to $25 Million than $100 Million. What does everybody else think? Also, I wouldn't pay anything for the Mary Kate and Ashley grilled cheese. I get their damned image on most of the grilled cheese sandwiches I make. So, not really that rare or anything.
i couldn't resist doing the search on ebay... i guess i must be living under a rock these days, because the whole 'virgin mary grilled cheese' phenomenon seems to have passed me by <sigh> according to CNN this morning, ebay re-allowed the listing, but i couldn't find it quickly and spending any real time looking for it would only play into their hands...
From the looks of the first picture, it looks like Mary Kate needs to go back to rehab. She couldn't hold down the cheese.
yeah, I definately see a movie star of some sort in the virgin mary cheese. Personally, my favorites on ebay are the 'grilled cheese, hold the virgin mary', and the 'grilled HAM and cheese with virgin mary', not to mention 'grilled cheese ON virgin mary'. The internet is a beautiful thing. I could go for a grilled cheese, anyone want one off ebay? -m.
