There are members of priuschat from all around the world. Last week I wanted to download pictures of Jerusalem for the group in honor of the Jewish new year, but the forum does not take a powerpoint presentation. Then I got to thinking it might be nice for members in different parts of the world to share their world neighborhoods "so to speak". Can someone come up with a central site that we can all share that would accept powerpoint downloads.. Let' s open the window folks.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(prius2go @ Sep 15 2007, 02:19 PM) </div> Doesn't have to be powerpoint. The idea is the sharing of communities.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(prius2go @ Sep 15 2007, 02:29 PM) </div> I'm surprised. I thought people would jump all over this - sharing their parts of the world.
Well, there is the personal gallery. I don't know if this can be leveraged to perform something like this. Perhaps if individuals created personal photo galleries of their parts of the world and then we had a thread with links to thos galleries that would work. Avi1, why Powerpoint? Is it that you have thrown a bunch of pictures into a Powerpoint presentation or have you embedded a bunch of animations and sound and created an auto-running presentation? Are you familiar with CutePDF. Google it; it's free. We use it at work all the time. I use it daily. It will print anything - ANYTHING - to a PDF file. And since PriusChat will let you attach a PDF to a post, that works for me when I need to attach a news article or something like that.
If you're sharing in a large community, you should be willing to use internationally STANDARD formats. Any microsoft file is their own custom proprietary mess, and you will do your community a big favor by turning it into a PDF or set of gif or jpeg images that have publicly documented standard formats and none of this secretive, undocumented crap that continually spews forth from Redmond. It may be all over the place, but it's still proprietary. I would submit that it's *good* that any forum site reject such items, because it forces you to re-think the content you're trying to provide. . _H*
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(TonyPSchaefer @ Sep 16 2007, 12:31 PM) </div> I admit, I am really not a computer whiz. The reason I sent a powerpoint file is because someone sent it to me and I thought it was nice, so I saved it. Let me give this CutePDF a try. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(hobbit @ Sep 16 2007, 10:52 PM) </div> Like I said above, I am not a computer whiz - and I certainly did not mean to offend anyone with the powerpoint suggestion
Avi1--YOU did not offend anyone here--MICROSOFT offends some/many. But you can also convert PowerPoint presentations for universal use, and for free use, just like with .pdf documents. I don't, offhand, remember how, but I have done it. Some of the PriusChat members (myself included) occasionally do not express themselves as diplomatically as might be hoped. L'shanah tova.
