I was thinking the same thing as Grandma Judy. By trying to name the car before delivery, you need to come up with both a boy and girl name. I don't know of anything similar to an ultrasound that can give you an idea, and if there is, it is probably more inacurate than an ultrasound. I don't think there is any 100 percent acurate test your dealer could do like an amneo fluid check. It would be so sad if you painted your garage or carport baby blue or pink, and it was the wrong color.

I never realy thought about it before, but Judy is also right that you will know which when you get to know him or her. I never thought before if Lightning was a he or a she, but suddenly one day, I knew he was Lightning. He is the same color as Judy's little one.

Did you never see "the Love Bug"? Do you not know that cars have personality?

Actually, I haven't named everything I own, but I do recognize and appreciate that everything has Life, even if it is in a form that is not readily apparent to everyone.

Besides children, the only other thing I have ever named is the cat. Though his name is Chaser, we all call him "kitty". Oh well.
Good luck and enjoy that "special" car.

My thought is that you are so lucky to be living in California since you live so much closer to the port. I have a much longer wait, though my situation is very similar to yours. I wanted super white with package 6 and my dealer did a swap with another, based on allotment before the cars even shipped. Now I have to wait until the week of October 22nd, depending on when the teamsters get it to the dealer.

As for a name, I told my nephews they could name it, though I was thinking Dharma would be a nice name if it's a girl.

We call ours "The Enterprise" :p
Yeah not too original..But when I was 18 I had a 1966 Oldsmobile that had every gee whiz option on it and it was affectionately called The Enterprise (of course it's size was more fitting) and it was also red..When my mom saw the dash on the Prius she said "holy cow it looks like a space craft" so that seemed fitting..

Please be informed, that the name Enterprise has already been taken. Shuttlecraft, including those of the Prius class, are named after astronomers, scientists, mathematicians, astronauts, and TV producers.

For example, see the Zhang Heng.

You are free to name your shuttlecraft within the confines of Starfleet regulations.

I agree with Subarutoo. When I got my Prius (January, 2004) I thought it was the coolest car in the universe. But I never had any desire to give it a name. I referred to it as "my car" or "my Prius," and I never addressed it.

Having said that, I did name my Xebra. It is such an unusual car, and due to manufacturing irregularities, every Xebra is unique. But it took a while to settle on Yevette. The dealer had named it Squeak because it had a squeak (which he fixed before I ever drove it or even saw it). I didn't like a name based on a defect, so I called it Escuincle, which is Spanish for "kid" or "brat," depending on context and tone of voice. But that didn't really seem to fit, and nobody could spell it. When I took delivery of it (after the dealer had made some upgrades to it) the dealer commented that I drove it as though it was a Corvette (half a joke, since its top speed is 40 mph) and I started calling it Yvette the EV e-'Vette. That eventually got shortened, and the spelling Americanized, to Yevette the e-'Vette, or just Yevette.

I still don't believe in naming a car. But the Xebra is so much more than a car. It's the first electric car to be available nation-wide in a decade. And no two are alike, in contrast to the Prius, which, due to Toyota's unmatched level of quality control, are all identical within any given package and color.

My suggestion: Wait until you've driven the car for a while to decide if it needs a name, and if so, what name.

I see on the vehicle ID plate in the left door opening my prius has a spot for car name, are we required to give each car a name and engrave it into the ID plate?

I named my Tercel "Lecter" and actually removed and reattached the letters in the right order on the trunk. For a while I considered upgrading to a Paseo and naming it "Aesop".

I haven't paid attention to the lettering on a Prius, but I don't really like the naming options, so it doesn't matter to me if they can't be rearranged. Maybe some of you would like Sirup (aka Sir Up, I guess), Rip Us, or I Spur, but those don't sound like great names to me.

update (for anyone interested): i decided that my car seemed like a boy for some reason, and i named him PABLO! i do actually refer to him as pablo quite frequently, too. i know it's kind of silly, but i am already so attached to him!

seriously though, i am totally loving this car! quite the upgrade from my '97 honda civic. :)

Maybe this naming thing makes sense after all. Since I spend 10-12 hours a week "living" in my car, I'll name it "Living Room".
