Ethylene glycol will kill you if you drink it. Which is probably why it isn't added to food or skin care products. Propylene is used in such, and as a laxative in large amounts. With a healthy liver and kidneys, it should only be an issue if injected. Europe is stricter in food uses and levels, and we should all eat less processed foods.
