Generally I'm pretty open to the metric system (as I tell my minister father - if God wanted us to use the metric system, He would've given us ten fingers and ten toes). I hope you were able to multiply your kilometers by 0.6 and help us out anyway
After 144 days of owning a Prius I'm at 13,832 miles. If the average miles per day continued, I'd have just over 35,000 after 1 year. However, I drive an extra 3800 miles or so during May-Aug. that I don't drive the rest of the year, so I suspect I should have about 31200 per year.
Okay, trying to do the math here.... Got the car on May 11th, and have so far put 7800 miles on it.. That's 4 months, so: 7800 x 3 (because 3 x 4 = 12, in case you are wondering) _______ 23400 miles That isn't bad... I was thinking that I'd put over 30,000 on in a year. Of course, that may change, as my employment may be changing in the near future, and I could be doubling my commute, or losing it altogether, depending upon what happens.
100 a day 5 days a week. Plus an additional 1200 for a trip to Iowa and now 1600+ for a trip to PA. Currently at 13800 since April 9th.
danny unable to reply directly to your post for some reason. but you are using that 3800 miles in your daily calculation for your yearly projection u need to subtract that then get a daily average for a yearly projection that would leave 69 milees a day or about 25,000 a year
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(DaveinOlyWA @ Sep 11 2007, 01:07 PM) </div> Hm, you're right. That was a pretty silly mistake. Of course, once you compute the 25.4K from the typical daily average, you then have to add the 3800 back in to the total, so the predicted annual total is about 29,200. That's about 2000 less than I originally estimated (an error of about 6.8%?). It'll be interesting to see next April how close this estimate is.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(p626808 @ Sep 11 2007, 12:59 PM) </div> You're the ?winner? so far. Only one in the over-40 category (assuming you answered the poll the same as your post). As we're approaching 100 respondents, we're starting to see a decent bell curve, looks to be centered around 16,000 miles/year (26,000 km/year), which is more than I expected. A small sampling of cars-for-sale implies an average closer to 12,500 miles/year (but I don't know if those were bought at the beginning or end of the model year, and how long they sat for prep, etc.). Part of the reason for doing this (and I didn't want to state it up front, in order to not skew the results) is that a cornerstone of CNW Marketing's claim for energy cost of the Prius is that it will only be driven on average 109,000 miles in its lifetime. This is based on their research showing the average Prius driver puts on about 7,000 miles/year. In this survey, only about 11% fall into that category, which surprisingly is a little less than those that drive 30K-40K/year. Mind you, I'm not condoning excessive driving, but I think the Prius is attractive to people who already are putting a lot of miles on the road, and really need the most efficient and practical car to do so. So either we're not average, or CNW is full of hot air, I'll leave the conclusion up to you. B)
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(nerfer @ Sep 11 2007, 03:28 PM) </div> Its pretty obvious that CNW picked their assumptions and data to support the argument they wanted to make. It would be interesting to know how many privately owned H2(s) have made it to 300K miles (I believe CNW est life was ~350k). I bet its not many. The Prius was est at 109k; there are a bunch of taxis way past that and Jesse's Prius is close to 320k.

one last shameless pump: this has been a pretty good response, but I'd like to get over 100 responses (sitting at 99 now), so I'll see if the late-night audience has anything to say about this.
