I bought a new 2007 grey Prius in 5/07, and it never had a window sticker on it, and the dealer couldn't find it, and still hasn't gotten a new one. I've heard it is illegal to sell a new car without a window sticker, is this a rumor only? I'm in CA. Any clarification would be great. thanks, tim
There used to be a service online where you could print out a sticker, given the VIN. Some classic car folks get them there, but I can't remember the site. I've never bought a new car without the sticker, though I have had to remind them to put it in the glovebox after final detailing. One Ford we bought, the guy had duplicate sticker copies in a book. We just thumbed thru them, until we found the car we wanted, and then he brought it around for us to see..pre-internet!

Just got my car last week and the sales said I have to remove the sticker myself due to state law in CA... so after all the detailing and cleaning he pulled up the car with the sticker on the window.....
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(TimR @ Sep 6 2007, 12:12 PM) </div> If you are not TOTALLY HAPPY with your purchase, Toyota and the dealer is in a real precarious position. If you doubt my claim, call a Lemon Law attorney and mention that the Monroney was not attached to the car prior to sale. Per tag's earlier post, the car must have the Monroney document attached to it prior to sale. The purpose of the Monroney document is to provide complete disclosure of what you are buying. If there is no Monroney, how do you know what you are buying? It looks like a Prius, but is it really a Prius? What about equipment specifications? And, and, and. Once the sale is made (you have signed the sales contract), the dealer as a courtesy to you often will remove the Monroney document and give it to you.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(apriusfan @ Sep 7 2007, 05:43 AM) </div> Most often when I see a 'new' car without a Monroney sticker, it's usually being advertised as being a newer model year than what it really is. I suppose the dealership could claim it was an honest mistake but, like I said, I've never seen it where they incorrectly identified the car as being an older vehicle. It's my suspicion that some dealerships remove the stickers of older new cars that aren't selling for this specific reason, since it's become increasingly more difficult to differentiate between model years anymore.
When I took delivery of my Prius 2008 yesterday, the sticker had been removed and placed in the glove box. I found this to be a nice service since they removed the glue residue from the window. Toyota dealers pay attention to the customer satisfaction survey. So, they should work with you.
I never saw my car with a window sticker, I think they said it was because it was recently delivered. Who puts on the window sticker, the dealer? I'm happy with the car, but my wife is not very pleased that I sold her Mini Cooper. I will see what the dealer says. I think they may say that they removed it knowing I was coming in to purchase (done over internet), and they took it off in prep. They have not found it in 3 months. It will be he said/she said.

It's definitely U.S. law. Apparently, Canada has no such requirement.
