So I bought my Prius just a few days ago, and I cannot get my HomeLink system to work. I've followed the directions to the letter and my garage door still won't open when I press the button. My mother had a Jaguar and we had the same problem with that car and we were never able to get it to work. Any suggestions? Has this happened to anyone else?

It's most likely that is wasn't the car that was the problem but more of the garage door opener or user error. It took me a few tries to get my friends rolling code to program.

    Per Homelinks website:
    1. For first time training, press and hold the two outer HomeLink buttons, releasing only when the HomeLink indicator light begins to flash after 20 seconds. (Do not perform this step when training the additional HomeLink buttons.)
    2.

Position the hand-held transmitter 1-3 inches away from the HomeLink surface (located on your mirror), keeping the HomeLink indicator light in view.
    3.

Using both hands, simultaneously press and hold both the desired HomeLink button and hand held transmitter button. DO NOT release until the HomeLink indicator light flashes slowly and then rapidly. When the indicator light flashes rapidly, both buttons may be released. (The rapid flashing indicates successful training.)

Note: Some garage door openers may require you to replace step 3 with the “cycling†procedure noted in the “View Canadian Instructions†section.
    4.

Press and hold the trained HomeLink button and observe the indicator light.

    * If the indicator light is solid/continuous, training is complete and your device should activate when the HomeLink button is pressed and released.
    * If the indicator light blinks rapidly for 2 seconds and then turns a solid/continuous light, proceed with the following training instructions for a rolling code device. A second person may make the following steps quicker and easier. Please use a ladder or other device. Do not stand on your vehicle to perform the next steps.

    5. At the garage door opener receiver (motorhead unit) in the garage, locate the “learn†or “smart†button (usually near where the hanging antenna wire is attached to the unit). If there is difficulty locating the training button, reference the garage door opener’s manual or contact us.
    6. Press and release the “learn†or “smart†button (the name and color of the button may vary by manufacturer). NOTE: Once the button is pressed, there are 30 seconds in which to initiate the next step.
    7. Return to the vehicle and firmly press and hold the trained HomeLink button for two seconds and release. Repeat the “press/hold/release†sequence up to 3 times to complete the training process.

HomeLink should now activate your device.

I had the same issue with my new houses garage door opener. Ends up on the actual motor for the garage door opener is a button you have to hit with a broom stick or something to allow a new unit to train the code. It worked after that.

I had that problem before with my rolling code garage then I found a fix from some serious search online and this is how you do it....(if your garage is the rolling-code type)

first you will have to use a remote that is for rolling code garage BUT NOT FOR YOUR GARAGE to sync with the homelink first follow the instrcution giving in the manual...(the blinking on the homelink will blink differently if it memorizes the rolling code type than the regular type)

after you sync your homelink to the rolling code type garage...just follow the instrution in the manual: press the button on your garage motor, then sync it by pressing your homelink.....then press it again to complete the process.....DONE.

let me know if it works and if i am making any sense...very tired now and about to take a nap..will check back on you tonight.

If both cars don't work, it's probably your garage door.

You might have a rolling-code type.

If so, follow the "Canadian" instructions on how to sync your rolling code garage door opener with the car.

Mine works fine; took two or three tries following the instructions in the book.

Does anyone know how to program 2 cars? I successfully programmed my prius last week when we bought it, but in doing so, it undid the homelink programming in my husband's chrysler 300m. My question is, if we now go through the process to reprogram his homelink, will my prius continue to work? Or, do we have to program both cars simultaneously? Anyone? Thanks.

the prius should be no problem...the only reason i can think of for what happened is that you reset the garage motor and program the new one to the prius which is the reason your hubby's car wont' work. as long as you don't reset it it shouldn't be a problem.

Most rolling code devices, like garage door openers, have a limit of how many transmitters they can work with. If you have previously programmed a number of different vehicles and/or transmitters to you door opener, it may have reached its limit. It probably kicks off the oldest devices first when you program new ones. My guess is that if you re-program the other car, it will kick off some much older programmed device before your Prius, so you should be OK. Also, check the door opener manual and see if there is a way to clear out ALL of the learned devices. Then you can start fresh using the Homelinks in your vehicles, and a few additional transmitters.

My old door opener was the single frequency and linked right away. My parent's opener is a rolling code and I couldn't get it to work using the training button on the motorhead. They still had the opener's manual, which mentioned a second method using the wall buttons. That worked the first time.

Funny: I had problems with mine, but my dealer was able to get it programmed with the garage miles away! So I don't think proximity to the motorhead is a requirement.

No, I don't think you are dumb but have you tried holding the homelink button a few seconds? Mine doesn't work unless I hold it down for a while. A quick push of the button like on a traditional opener will do nothing.

If you never get to the homelink light blinking rapidly when programming, try new batteries in the garage door remote.

Yeah, I second that... I struggled to get my HomeLink to connect, re-examining the instructions numerous times and getting frustrated, only to eventually realize you have to HOLD the button for ~1 second, unlike most portable remotes which work with a simple click. <_<

My salesman programmed mine when I picked up the car, but when I got home it didn't seem to work - then I figured out (like others in this thread) that you have to push & HOLD the Homelink button to get it work.

I finally installed my new garage door opener with a rolling code. It didn't work until I re-read the instructions in the manual to "teach" the HomeLink that it was one with a rolling code. After that it synced up right away.

Follow the directions to erase all three garage door opener buttons on the Prius.
My car only had 6 miles on it when I received it and all three buttons were already programmed.

Once I erased all three buttons, everything worked per the owners manual to set it up.
