I was at the Streets of Woodfield in Schaumburg, IL over the weekend. As my wife and I were crossing the little roadway in front of the shops, a Lexus rolled up to the stop sign. My wife didn't notice but I did. I stopped literally right in front of the car and stared puzzled. Not at the driver but at the hood. There was no noise. That's when it occurred to me, "clearly this is a hybrid." That's when my gaze slid up to the driver who was looking at me just as puzzled. We had a "hybrid moment" as I nodded to the hood and smiled. As I stepped out of the way, there was the crackle of rubber over loose rocks as the sleek black car stealthed through the intersection. His wife was smiling as they rolled by and that's when I got a good look at the back: LS600hL. At >$100,000 apiece, I don't suspect I'll see too many more.
Gosh, I wonder if the Lexus driver gets the argument all the time, "You'll never get back that hybrid premium you paid." Somehow, I think not.
Hi All, I have seen a few GS's. They are very quick. The drivers like to show off to Prius drivers. Make RX hybrids looks poor. Have not seen the LS hybrid yet. I keep looking though, and have seen a one of the newer LS cars , but it was not the hybrid. BTW Tony. I was wondering who the guy with the black Lambo was. He cruised through town here a few weeks ago. Now we know, eh? What a waste!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(TonyPSchaefer @ Aug 27 2007, 03:33 PM) </div> We had our first LS600hL roll into the dealership on Saturday, spent all of 1 - 2 hours before it was sold 100 Grrrr was a steal. this one sold for 125     I am 1 of only 4 guys who are certified to work on this car at our dealership. We dont expect to sell that many, but they tell us there are over 40 on preorder. . .
One of my coworkers is up for a new car soon and is looking at it. I think the "Hybrid Premium" on that car is somewhere around 30K, though, and I am fairly sure he won't do it.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(donee @ Aug 27 2007, 07:47 PM) </div> I've only seen that car in pictures. Gonna have to watch WGN tonight for an update. Who wrecks their (very tracable) Lamborghini and runs away? For those who don't know what we're talking about: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/chi-0...,0,933588.story
have yet to see an LSh... In fact, I've only seen one LS460 L Exec. All the LS's in my area are the swb version.
I've seen about a dozen of the 460L's and only a few non L's. I'm surprised i haven't seen an hL yet.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(V8Cobrakid @ Aug 27 2007, 07:23 PM) </div> That's b/c you're in CA lol.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(patsparks @ Aug 27 2007, 07:49 PM) </div> If your Prius cost ~AU$40k, I don't know want to know how much the LS600h L will cost. (It's up to Cdn$150k)
.... i just lost many paragrahs of text..... grr.... Saw my first LS600hl today. I didn't notice it was a hybrid till i spotted the LED projectors. Surprised i didn't see it sooner. There are tons of other $100,000+ Dollar cars in this part of Cali.
Stop by farmer's market in Newport Beach CA & you see that at least 1 out of 10 cars cost that much. Ahh, the land of glutonus excess.
I wonder what the comments on here would be like if the LS600hL was made by GM or Ford? I guess it is ok for Toyota to make a 6-liter hybrid but not Chevrolet? A little hypocritical? Wait I guess it is only a 5.0 liter and is rated at 22/20, makes the 6.0 liter SUV from Chevy look better at 21/22 mpg. Maybe its the fact it is transported several thousand miles across the ocean in a diesel freighter before it is driven in the US that you like so much.
what parts of GM are "made in china"? and when the volt go's in production ( never ) and here in europe whe want one..... what hybrid elec solar powered ocean freighter is going to transport then from the us to here
As long as we are on the subject of Lexus, how many countries in the world create a more negative balance of payments with the United States than just Lexus? In 2007 Lexus imported 254,826 vehicles into the United States. What do you think the average cost of goods sold is on one of those? @$30,000/lexus=$7,644,780,000 @40,000/lexus=$10,193,040,000 those numbers do not include replacement parts and the parts assembled at the Lexus facility in Canada. Definitely would be in the top 15 trade deficits if it was its own country. I wonder why that isn't spelled out on their website?
GM can only dream of making a luxury car like the LS or even the S-Class for that matter. GM's best shot is the Cadillac DeVille and trust me, when you have GW Bush gawking at the LS600hL from his presidential DeVille as he passes by one, you have a problem.
