Is work still continuing on this project? It's been over a month and a half with no update. Sounded like a great idea and the pics on the website gave the impression it wasn't far off...

I just got on a Prius waiting list, so I'm months away from actually experiencing the car. But shouldn't all of you be watching the road instead of these screens? Or are you all talking about camping out?

Micky, it's for things like backup camera, aftermarket NAV, MP3 players, etc. I doubt anyone really wants to watch DVD's while in motion. It would be really great, though, if I could see the DVD screen long enough to operate the player to set it up for the backseat video (yet to be developed).

I don't know why DVD's all start with the menu these days. (The older ones never did this!) If I want the menu, I'll press the menu button, otherwise just play the movie!

There's lotsa software out there that allow you to "re-author" DVDs and drop the menus - or other things you don't want.

Joel, thanks for the tip. It's a pain to do the reauthoring, though. I've done a few for my neighbor for their Sienna with aftermarket DVD, but I still wish the default on all DVD's was just to play.

AFAIK they're just doing the interface with plug-ins...you'd need to buy a DVD/MP3, etc. player.

So if Coastal is doing the audio/video interfaces I assume that you could install a DVD/MP3 player like the ones I linked to above? If it could be a clean fit in the flip up slot below the existing cd changer that would be pretty nice.

Yup, that's the point. Also, you should be able to hook up your iPod, a backup camera, and probably a toaster oven if needed!! This is a long awaited option for many of us.

    Hopefully, it'll be under $500.

With a Treo 650 on order, my "play money" is quickly dwindling to 0.

Anyone spoken to Dave recently on when this will be available? It seems to be taking forever. I remember back in March before I had my car wondering about when this would be out.......

Based on reports, and on my own experience with the EV switch (I was the first person on Prius Chat to install Dave's EV switch) what you get with Dave is quality, not speed. Apparently, the Prius is a sideline, almost a hobby with him. His other business takes precedence. He also wants to make sure he's got it right before selling it. Put those two together and you have a lesson in patience. I waited a month for my EV switch after ordering it. Apparently he installed a beta-test version in someone's car, waited for the report, there were a couple of glitches, and he fixed them before selling the switch. I gritted my teeth for a month, but I got a switch that works like a charm.

And of course the hurricanes set everything back. My guess is, when this thing finally comes out it'll be worth the wait. I want the backup camera.

My friends - please don't pester Dave. I have seen this work with my own eyes, and can tell you that the problem is solved and the hardware is coming! It's clever (as always from this remarkable resource), versatile, and easy to install.

There's also an I AGREE killer...

DO NOT BOTHER DAVE - wait for the announcements. This is our guru, the quality and inventiveness are worth the wait.

There should be a Nobel Prize for Priusware!

    Ho ho ho!

AWESOME!!! It'll be worth the price whatever it is for that feature alone!

Eisenson - What exactly do you mean by an "I AGREE killer"? What's an "I AGREE" ?!
