Those must have been two big-nice person buritos.

I think the dealer disabled mine. The car was a demo and the salesman who drove it must have turned it off.

You must be driving to work backwards. Try turning around. :D

Any NAV hack yet?? I can live with the backup beep since I don't do much backing.

A while back I came across a screen to change the position where the navigation sounds it's voice commands, Enyone know where it is? Mine is coming through the left speaker (I'm in Australia) and it disturbs the stereo overtime it makes a voice command HELP

I love hacks more than anyone and really want to override the Nav on a 2007 but I think it is important to discuss the Back Up Beeping hack.

My Prius makes zero engine noise on starting and backing up. The beep is obviously Toyota's attempt to counteract an otherwise dangerous potential.

NHTSA shows below:

"Such tragedies are getting increased attention, with federal regulators planning more research into prevention, and consumer organizations contending that the problem is on the rise. From 2002 to 2006, 474 children died after being backed over by a vehicle, compared with 138 from 1997 to 2001, according to Kids and Cars, a nonprofit consumer-advocacy group. The group, which is funded largely by private donations, says its estimates are based on police reports, media reports and tips from lawyers, as well as discussions with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration."

In addition backing out of parking spaces with people cluelessly walking behind you.

I don't want to rain on the parade just want to make sure we all think of the unintended consequences.

P.S. It would suck when the attorney for the other side tells the jury "the defendent hacked his car because he didn't like the beeping sound."

You do own a Prius, right?

So you realize that the beepnig is inside the car, not outside?

It isn't there to warn people behind you that you are backing up, it is there to remind you that you have reverse engaged (just in case you forget that you just put the car in reverse a moment ago).

When my memory gets so bad that I'm not aware that I put the car in reverse a second ago, I hope someone takes my license (and my car) away from me.

Did not realize inside only. I am a dope.

My Prius is virtually silent in reverse and risk of hitting a child is high IMHO. But these hacks on beeping apparently won't make a difference to this issue. I stand corrected.

No problem.

By the way, several who have turned off the interior beep agree with you and have hacked an exterior beeper connection to their reverse lights. If you are concerned about people behind you hearing you back up you might want to look into this (or roll your windows down?).

Just did the "reverse beep removal" on by '07 and it worked like a charm 1st time.

As for previous posters looking for a nav hack, I have not been able to find one yet for an '06/'07. I'll be sure to post here if I do tho!

Keep the info flowing everyone!

There are a number of commercial add-on alarms for backing up. I like the "train roar" and "This car is backing up!"/"¡Este coche está sosteniendo!"

Hi all, I'm a newbie here, so forgive my ignorance. I may post this in the mods thread as well.

Has anyone tried the instructions found on http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showpost.p...p;postcount=124? It appears that they have the same version nav DVD that the Prius '07 does, so this might work. I take it from the discussions that this doesn't permanently elliminate the nav gray out, but does allow you to do the work around (i.e., screen sequence to disaable each time used) documented in other posts.

Thanks for any feedback.

BTW, received my 2007 Prius, Magnetic Gray, Package #5, with leather interior last Saturday....been driving Tahoes and Suburbans for 20 years...love the Prius!

Hi Jeff_TX, welcome to Priuschat. :)

I'd like to think this would work, though I have my doubts since the 5th Generation (06/07 models) v5.1 disc compatible with the Prius does not support the override either, which contradicts what the lexus group is saying. I believe only the 4th Generation systems (04/05) up to v4.2 had the 'Override' button. Even 4th-Gen systems that upgraded the data to v5.1 (or was it 6.1?) lost the override ability; though I do recall one or more users who managed to hack the disc just as described in that clublexus.com thread.

It should also be noted that 4th Gen and 5th Gen systems have separate data discs, even if the version numbers are the same (5.1, 6.1, etc...)

I still patiently await someone to find the override button in the 5th Gen... I am sure it has to be there somewhere, surely as a hidden button... <_<

I own an '06 Prius w/ nav and quite by accident stumbled on a way to put in a memory destination while the car is in motion. Touch the MFD to move the map until you can touch your memory point. Once pressed, it can be entered just as though the car were stopped. I didn't know where to post this, so just added it to the "hacks" area.

Thanks for the clarification, Kevin. I'm so new to this Prius stuff that I don't know what I don't know; but it surely is fun! I'm wondering if the startup file that the instructions say to overwrite on 6.1 could be replaced by the 4.2 version and would allow the override. Sadly, I don't have the 4.2 version to test this out.

I just refuse (for the time being) to hard hack the car at this time. I've offered the Toyota tech at my dealership a steak dinner for two if he finds out a soft hack and let's me know.

Off on a road trip today to visit friends in Austin...via my magic Prius ride.

Cheers,
Jeff

I've thought of this as well, but considering they are two different generations of NAV, I am 99.9% sure it will not work. <_< I don't know if anyone has actually tried though...? Like you, I don't have a 4.2 disc, not a dual-layer burner.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Jeff_TX @ Aug 29 2007, 09:16 AM) </div>
I've thought about this as well... I am sure the override has to still be hidden there for troubleshooting purposes, but Toyota seems to have done a good job of hiding it. Maybe they threaten any tech's job who let's the cat out of the bag...?
