A folded up wheel chair with the front facing the front of the car fits in with a couple inches to spare.

How do I know? Get a serious case of Plantar Fasciitis in both feet and you'll be using a wheel chair. Six weeks in it (ok - not 24 hours a day) and I'm on my feet most of the time. If I push it, I'm back in it for a bit.

For those that don't know it, the Plantar Fascia is that big tendon that goes from your heal to the balls of your feet. Don't let yours get inflamed and think you can just walk it off.

I've had my Prius for just over a week, and it's gotta be the coolest car I've ever had. Anyway, I'm excited to say that I've already found something that, so far, doesn't seem to have been posted. I have a Garmin GPS, which calculates MPH very accurately. It has always been right on with previous cars. HOWEVER--with the Prius, I noticed that the speed displayed by the Garmin is always exactly 1 MPH less than what the speedometer showed. My guess is that it's an unknown "safety" feature....

When Bluetooth engages, the rotary volume knob on the radio does not control the volume of the conversation. Only the volume controls on the steering wheel work.

Yeah, that must be it! ;) I also noticed that the Garmin's speed is 1 mph lower than the Prius.

The position of the coathanger hooks on the rear grab handles are not symmetrical, i.e. the left side one is toward the front while the right side one is toward the rear. This is because the handles are identical to each other.

The seatbelt attachment point on the B-pillar is height adjustable. Squeeze the plastic case and the whole thing slides up and down. It was over a month before I noticed this...

it's also the perfect size for some napkins and my wallet on long trips... a set of golf clubs will fit exactly in the rear with the seats up, but ONLY in between the two extensions

(if you need to haul more than one set, you will need to lay a seat down) B)

The electric actuators for the door locks actually have motors in them they are not solenoids. They have a small electric motor that drives a rack or screw to lock and unlock the door. There are 5 of these in a Prius, 4 in the doors and one in the hatch.

Please try not to get your knickers in a twist over local colloquialisms.
The term "Jap Import" is used in Australia and New Zealand to describe a car, which was imported from Japan as a used car. Due to the small populations of Australia and New Zealand the range of cars bought in by manufacturers is narrow compared to what is available in Japan or USA so some enterprising companies and individuals import used Japanese cars which are not available locally.
Cars like Nissan Silvia Nissan Skyline, Toyota Sorer and other performance cars are normally imported second hand but some people have chosen to bring in people movers and other models not available here.
The term Jap Import is not used or designed to offend. You referring to Aussie cars wouldn't offend me and I wouldn't expect an English person to take offence to me calling a Jag a pommy car. Please don’t take offence when I refer to a large American car as a Yank Tank.
Have a look if you don't believe me http://www.google.com.au/search?gbv=2&...=cr%3DcountryAU
Kiwis and Skippys are not normally so thin skinned as to be offended by a shortened name or nick name.
    Sorry about the OT post.

Well the reason why "Jap" is offensive is because they were used to describe the Japanese during WWII and the Japanese occupation. It's like calling an African the n word.

Albertus makes a very good point. Personally I would suggest that a series diode be used for re-chargeable batteries as well. When current flows back into the batteries from the prius, heat will be generated within the cells. Both rechargeable and non-rechargeable batteries will definitely have problems and exploding cells may be the outcome. Even the 3.5 and 7 AmpHour batteries mentioned by Tom 06 could have trouble. If you did want the prius to recharge the smaller battery a resistor across the diode could be used to limit the current to a suitable value.

    Cheers
    Warwick

The little carpet in the in-dash compartment (below the radio) only fits in one way.

The in-dash compartment door is more curved towards the driver side than it is on the passenger side

That is because the the mfd, audio controls, and that little compartment are not centered in the dash, but, are offset about an inch to the right in US models (and to the left in rh drive models).

Being offset doesn't change the composition of the dash.

Yes it is "right aligned" to the centre console box (if you sit in the rear middle seat) but what I'm saying is that the dash isn't a bell curve, it's skewed right.

Does anybody know why the Consumption screen shows the 5-minute intervals progressing from right to left instead of the other way around like normal bar charts do? And is this reversed on the Japanese or British model?

Maybe because the current bar of MPG is on the right, but then again, they could have put it on the left.
