Hi All, We had a fantastic trip to Yosemite in our new Prius, photos to follow soon! However...the 1st night we parked facing uphill a bit, and the next morning when we drove her she would make squeaking sounds (the best I can describe) which continued off and on until we stopped, turned her off twice, and then it improved alot. The next day it happened slightly again, although we did not park on a slope this time as I thought it might be related? We were at 6100 ft altitude. The rest of the trip no sounds... Ideas?? Victoria
Any chance the squeaking noises were happening while you were stepping on the brake pedal? One of the Prii's idiosyncrasies is making a squeaking noise from the brake system while at altitude. If not that, could you tell approximately where the squeak was located, and exactly how loud and how long would it last? P.S. Did you do Old Priest Grade?
This is a little far out, but it has happened. Any chance a rodent got into the A/C intake or somewhere like that?
We did the new priest grade It was 97 degrees at the bottom of the grade at China Camp! I think it might have made the noise by braking, but it also continued to make it a bit even while sitting in the car at the gas station...?? And no mice in the system! It wasnt that kind of squeak. Do you know why the brakes make noise at high altitudes? Victoria <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Sufferin' Prius Envy @ Aug 18 2007, 01:48 AM) </div>
I went up to Donner Summit last week, and noticed the squeaky brake noise. I figured it was the altitude, because the only other time it happened was at altitude. Any idea what the reason is?

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Doc Willie @ Aug 18 2007, 10:24 AM) </div> I doubt it would just be the lower humidity. I have been up at Tahoe during a rain storm and the squeak was still there. Besides, the folks in the desert southwest would be yelling their heads off complaining about an obnoxious squeak noise when the barely touch the brake pedal. I think it is strictly an altitude thing.
