Yesterday I saw a load of new Prius on a car hauler. All of them had some kind of fancy wheels, chrome, but with thinner spokes than either of the factory wheels. There were 6-8 cars, different colors, but all had the new flashier wheels. Did anybody else see them? (May 21, 210 freeway, eastbound near 134 freeway, about 5:15 p.m.) It may be some dealer installed extra, but I've never seen so many at once, with custom wheels. Just wondering what's up.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(subarutoo @ May 22 2007, 01:54 PM) </div> They wouldn't have been the standard wheels without the trim rings? I think that makes the spokes look thinner. I'm pretty sure Prii ship without the trim rings on and then they are installed by the dealer. Ah, you've been into Prii a lot longer than I have. I'm sure you know what they look like without trim rings. Maybe there is a cool new wheel coming out! Eric
Howdy subarutoo Perhaps you were seeing the 2007 Touring Edition which has different wheel covers, and wheels. The differences: The rim is 16" with Bridgestone Turanza tires, the rim has 7 spokes instead of 6 and the wheel cover has thinner spokes. Here's a picture: [attachmentid=8263]
After spending the last 3 months in England, I noticed that is how all the Prii wheels are.. They don't have our ones with the trim rings and such. Personally, I like the touring wheels a whole lot better!
The cars I saw definitely had different wheels, chrome with maybe some black acents. I know what both standard and touring wheels look like w/out trims, and these were way different, and very shiny. In LA it could have been cars for a movie shoot, or ad. You see all kinds of fake police cars, taxis' etc on car haulers headed to movie shoots. One day I saw a whole load of Kits (Knightrider Trans ams) going somewhere. No Batmobiles so far.
No way! That would be a blatant violation of the Rule that all hybrids shalt have ugly wheels. Actually your movie shoot theory could be it... the Prius' movie/TV/commercial career really seems to be taking off.
<_< Ok subarutoo... So here's how the 2007 Touring Edition looks WITHOUT the wheel covers... and with a center 'spinner' in the center... [attachmentid=8272]
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Charles Suitt @ May 23 2007, 04:25 PM) </div> Looks better with the hubcaps IMO
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(priussoris @ May 24 2007, 12:10 AM) </div> aha - isnt google amazing right - what are those middles?
Those are the hubcaps that come with the 15" wheels. And they are literally hubcaps, as they only cover the hub. They fit on the hub of the 16" wheels as well, making the wheelcover removal an easier task. You don't have to figure out how you're going to cover the hole. Just purchase the caps. Bonus, you get Toyota logos on the caps.
toyota really know how not to style things where can i get those caps in black? black wheel bolts would be good too
Well, I haven't tried to remove mine, but I'll bet they're made of chrome plated plastic. I'll also bet the plastic is black. So you could purchase them from a US or Canadian dealer, sand them and spray them black, or you could try to peal off the chrome. Wheel nuts are easier. Just get a set "black chrome plated".
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(subarutoo @ May 22 2007, 03:54 PM) </div> Might have been these. http://www.toyozone.com/inventory/accessor...p;accyId=585600 They came with my 07 package #6 I like the way they handle.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(4n6 @ Aug 17 2007, 08:09 PM) </div> wow!! Those are nice! They're very close to the 1st Gen wheels but they do look better with that "liquid graphite" look.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(4n6 @ Aug 18 2007, 04:09 AM) </div> what tyre sizes do you fit to 17"?

For anyone that removed the plastic hub covers off of their Touring edition wheels, I'd be willing to buy them from you. I happen to like them, although I unfortunately scrapped up mine pretty badly while parallel parking (I was adjusting to dimensions of this car). My e-mail is . Thanks in advance.
