Because merely bringing up the subject elicits emotions like these.

Just for the record, England just sentenced their first official Lesbian Bigamist.

But, I suppose that's really a reason NOT to get married. If you aren't married you can't be convicted of Bigamy :)

I just dont believe taking it in the back door counts as making love. If its impossible to "make love" how can you even truely be in love? Apparentally the parts weren't meant to fit, or someone read the instructions backwards.

    Obviously you've:

    A) Never been in love, and
    B) Have a really boring sex life.

    I'm glad I'm not you.

    I'll second that...
...besides, there are incredibly loving couples (married heterosexuals) that for one reason or another are unable to have intercourse the way you define it. "Making Love" is something that two people do as a part of their relationship -- it isn't a recipe out of a cookbook!

Totally. I initially (as a bi married woman) avoided this post for fear of someone like Slair pissin' me off.

If he/she wants to live in a world where marriage and love are defined by sex - I hope he likes it there. Those of us who are married and have been for a while find that sex is not a determining factor in marriage (unless of course thats all you two have going for you).

My biggest reason - I don't want to explain to my children and my children's children why I supported a bigoted government standard as did those who avoided doing anything about America's white/black laws back in the day.

Slair can be quoted of saying the following of vegetarianism and the value of animals:

"For every cow you dont eat, I'll make sure I eat 3. Why do you think animals are here? To be retards and not develop their society? If animals had a purpose other than food, you'd be working next to one."

The manner in which he defines the value of many things is very narrow. If you can't work and if don't engage in traditional sex, you're of no value to this society. I wonder what other profound methods of value our on his list.

What's got all the homophobes panties in a bundle about gay marraige anyways? Gays can't procreate and spread the dreaded "disease" they fear so overwhelmingly.

 Dreaded Disease.....I *wish* we could pass on this blessing to those who are so bigoted so they could realize they have no more control over it than they do the color of their skin.

    The "back door"??

    The "Hershey Highway?"

Phlueeze. We're big boys and girls, you can just say, "anal sex."

I'm curious, how do you feel about two women doing it? Tell us that it repulses you as much as two men having sex...or you might come off sounding like a hypocrite!
    :)

As we said, heterosexual sex isn't actually the best --or even primary-- reason to encourage the formation of stable family units.

Fortunately, to allay SSimon's fears, gay people don't have to "spread" the "disease." New gay people are being born all the time, and it's the heterosexuals who are actually popping them out like a Pez dispenser, in support of our "cause."

Slair, believe it or not, if you ever have children, one or more of them might discover about themselves that they're gay. And --here's what's worst-- there's NOTHING you can do about it!

Well, that's not quite true. You could:

    (1) Accept them for who they are, and help your offspring --regardless of their sexuality-- find happiness and fulfillment for in their lives, as they see fit.

    Or, you could:

    (2) Attempt to fill them with shame and hatred for who they are, then ostracize them from your family (taking them to your Church to speak with your Pastor about why this is wrong counts as the same thing).

I can only hope that even you would choose (1), if pressed.

lol...??what does that have to do with this? If you wouldn't be so narrow minded, you would realize what I'm actually talking about in my quotes. When was the last time you've seen any horse create and use a tool in problem solving? How many cows do you see building fires? How far has the emu population evolved within the last 100 years? Looks like they are still doing the same things the same way they did 100 years ago.

Also, yes I do know what love is. I've been with my now fiance for 7 years this 8-14-07 and we are still doing great together.

So, if someone doesn't evolve, we should eat them?
Like, oh, the aborigines of Australia, perhaps?
Since when does technological advances determine value?

Oh, and 7 years of being engaged? That's not engaged, that's a failure to commit.

"On the planet Earth, man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much - the wheel, New York, wars and so on - whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man - for precisely the same reasons. " - Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

Um, some couples can't make love in the traditional sense. My mother in law, she was married to a paraplegic. (He has since passed on). So are you saying, that they were not in love?

No wonder he doesn't want same-sex couples to get married. It's not that he's afraid of same-sex couples, he's afraid of marriage!

I'm not afraid of marriage, I'm only 22. We started dating when she was a freshman in HS, and now she is a Junior at Purdue. We are taking the responsible approach and waiting until she graduates until we get married. Why have a wedding when she has to use her last summer for a full-time internship? Its just another thing to add to stress and get in the way. There is no rush for it. Also, I said "and NOW fiancee, that doesn't mean we have been engaged for 7 years. Read it, repeat it to yourself and then maybe you'll understand what I'm saying.

TJ: good point about the para, never thought of things like that.

Rae: when did I say advancements had to be technological? Does building a fire require technology? I never said just because someone doesn't evolve, we should eat them. I was giving the point of everything is here for a reason.

Why dose every topic in this thread have to be an argument? All I did was give my opinion, and everyone assumes I'm starting an argument. And yes, you assumed.

I'd say about 98% of all the human misery we inflict on ourselves can be attributed to exactly that failing. Sadly, you have lots of company.

98% is also about the proportion of unsolicited advice that is worthless, but in the 2% worth heeding, "Engage Brain Before Speaking" ranks right up there with "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you."

Because I do wedding photography and it would double the possible number of bookings I could get each year!

Oh, and my husband of 13 years has been pushing to do certain things in the bedroom for a while now - things that I'm not really interested in, but he's really curious about. I guess that means I love him more than he loves me!

Well, if problem solving ability is how you would now like to define worth, you'll regard honey bees, crows and the lowly ant as our equivalent. Quite shockingly, homosexuals are adept at problem solving as well. Guess you'll now have to reevaluate your philosophies for evaluating societal worth.
