I know that in CA they let hybrid cars park free at meters but do you have to have the stickers or is it enough to have a hybrid car without HOV stickers? Any help on this is greatly appreciated.

there are two cities that you can park at meters for free that i know of in california, one is downtown san jose, the other is los angelos. i cant speak for LA but in order to qualify in San Jose you need to: 1) have a car that is qualified for HOV (i think prius and civic are the only ones) 2) YOU MUST OF PURCHASED THE CAR FROM A SAN JOSE DEALERSHIP 3) you now have to pay a fee for the parking permit, its $30 application and rules are at http://www.sjdowntownparking.com/PDFs/Hybr...mit_License.pdf the application states that it expires in june 2007, but this has been extended another month. and the new permits do cost $30 and i think they are only good for a couple years you do not need HOV stickers to apply and obtain a san jose parking permit

It was previously posted that in the City of LA, you can park your hybrid without a sticker. The law was changed and expanded at somepoint. Just be careful that it is a CITY meter--there are lots of LA-area places that are not in the City limits.

Does anyone know about New Haven Connecticut. I know they have the same thing. But do you have to live in New Haven, or can you just register in New Haven and park there if you work there. I might be starting a job downtown, and if I can register to park there, but not live there, if would be less expensive. I live in a suburb of New Haven. Thanks for the help.

I've tried to register my car for on street parking, which I do use from time to time, but haven't been able to. They've simply not replied to my e-mail asking if the car had to be registered in the city (ie: You live there) or just a registration they keep. Click here for link. About 6 paragraphs down. Edit, found this paragraph on another site: Free Hybrid Parking in New Haven: On June 6, 2005, the city of New Haven passed a law permitting hybrid vehicles registered in New Haven free parking at metered spots within the city. The ordinance will take effect within one month and only apply to alternative fuel vehicles registered in New Haven. Owners will have to come to City Hall to receive a decal which will be attached to the vehicle. Motorists will still need to obey posted time limits and must park in legal spots. Austin TX has the same thing. http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/airquality/parkfree.htm I just looked and the parking permits are already gone but you get other free stuff.
