I recently installed the DICE unit for my new Ipod. I saw the Ipod mound from DICE on the Priusshop page and ordered it as well only to find that you apparently need an optional mounting bracket to install the clip onto.

I'm curious if anyone else has 1)purchased the DICE cradle and 2) found an easy inexpensive and convenient way to mount it without an additional purchase. or 3) Purchased this ( http://priuschat.com/shop/product_info.php.../products_id/68 ) Proclips mounting bracket.

If you did purchase the proclips bracket was it plug and play to put the DICE cradle on it (did it screw directly on or did you have to glue it or something? Are you happy with it or would you do something different next time.

4)Any other options for those of you who didn't get the DICE bracket.

Sorry folks, I'm typically anti-bumping, but I'm bumping this post. Only 28 views in almost 12 hours and I find it hard to believe that there isn't anyone out there who hasn't tried one of these solutions or something else.

I'm I going to be forced to shell out the $38 (with shipping) to try out this proclip mount?

I can't help you 100%, but I've used the ProClip (or Brodit as they're sold as in Norway/Sweden) in 3 non-Prius cars. I do have the mounting bracket you've got a picture of at home, waiting for my Prius to arrive.

The mounting brackets are really good. There are no screws (this IS the right word, or am I making a fool of myself now?) or anything, just a little double-sided tape to secure it to the dash (prevent rattle and such). It's really easy to remove if you need to. The concept is that they wedge in place in air vents, between dash parts or any other such place.

Then you fasten the holder (in this case the DICE holder) with 4 screws. No glue or tape there.

I've used these for both cell phones and my Garmin Nüvi 360 and never had any problems.

I have the proclip in my 2006 Prius. In general it works okay... BUT: I find that the plastic softens enough in the summer heat that the mounting clip (the piece that fits into the slot beside the MFD and clips to the vent opening) deforms after a while and the weight of the device in the mount (an iPaq PPC in my case) casuses the mount to detach and fall off... I have successfully "reformed" the clip (the end that slips into the gap behind the vent - not the end that clips into the vent opening itself) using a heat gun and it holds good for a while... but eventually the summer sun will allow it to deform and slip again. I haven't contacted them about this, but if I get a few free moments and happen to think about it I may.

    Mike,
Hmmm, that's discouraging for a $40 product. Do you use the pictured DICE Ipod cradle too?

    Stein,(great name!)
Thanks for the input. I do understand the general concept of how the products mount, but I'm interested in knowing the quality and compatibility of the ProClip (specifically) with the DICE Ipod cradle (specifically) before I shell out $40.

Well I'll throw in my .02 cents in since I have used it with the DICE kit. It attaches and fits just fine, no real issues there. You're gonna have to run the sync cable between the seams of the dash.

I can't comment on the price, conflict of interest and all.

An alternative is to make your own. I prefer to do this with a machine shop - I run a piece of metal out from between the seams of the dash and shape it to the dash.

I only have the mount for the Pocket PC (iPaq) but the mount is fine... only problem is with the plastic softening as I mentioned. If you could make the mount out of metal as noted in another post that would be the ultimate!

I use a ProClip mount for my BlackBerry in my Audi. I am getting one for my new Prius. The ProClip mounts are really well engineer I think, and they fit the vehicle perfectly. They use what is called an AMPS screw hole pattern, which appears to be some industry standard mounting template. I am pretty sure I remember reading that the DICE cradle also uses and AMPS screw hole pattern, so is should seemlessly mount right onto any ProClip vehicle mount.

This panavise is what I use for my SkyFi2 mount.

This Kuda mount is leather, match your MFD shade.

$56 for the Kuda mount!!! Holy crap. $20, even $30 Ok, but $56 before shipping for that thing. No way, just can't justify that.

The <strike>Panvise is only $28</strike>. Probably a little steep for something that doesn't look as nice, but once the Dice mount is on it it may be a lower profile and not noticable...which has it's own appeal. Can you confirm that it definately works with the DICE Ipod mount?
The onsite wireless link above links to a fraudulent front...they never delievered the product and never replied to e-mail and all phone lines were non-functional. Thankfully Google Checkout was VERY responsive, followed up, and cancelled the order crediting my account. Buyer beware.

Well the Kuda mount IS leather and has a sleeker look than the Proclip.

I don't know about the Dice mount but if uses the standard AMP mount or something similar it should fit, plenty more holes than the Proclip.

I've got 2 Proclip mounts in my 96 Camry...one for my XM receiver and another for my Dell Axim PDA. Both work great. I didn't have any of the plastic softening like others have mentioned. My XM has been mounted for 3 years or so now...

Above I lined out the link to my original Panavise order company as they were fraudulent.
I found another company that sells the Panavise for Prius at a fair price:
    Panaviseonline.com
They sell it for $28 + $7 shipping. I called the 800# and got a nice man, sounds like the owner, who confirms his company is legit and promised to ship my order today if it came within the hour.
Hope nobody else used the company above, but at least GCO came through for me.

    Sucks.

That's a good looking piece. I think I'm going to order one.
