Niagara Falls, Canadian side, if I'm not mistaken. http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&rls=...sa=N&tab=wl That bridge collapse is just dreadful. I have a low-grade fear of that, which often slinks around the back of my mind, anytime I drive over something more than a stream... the old Woodrow Wilson Bridge here in the DC area particularly unnerved me; glad to see the replacement bridge! I had a new image location ready, but for some reason, I'm gettng blocky Google Maps----where every other square section of the map is "We're sorry we cannot display"---yet the neighboring parcel is visible. So I may try again from the office, later...
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(nerfer @ Aug 1 2007, 11:15 PM) </div> Well, the route I meant is in the picture, THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER. Baton Rouge is navigable by ocean going vessels, although I had to go a number of miles down towards NO to find one in the picture http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=30....p;z=16&om=1 . We've been to the headwaters at Lake Itasca (but didn't make a good game post). US 71 goes through my hometown of Pineville, LA. But it would be a nightmare to drive it all the way north! Oddly enough, Mpls. was the only place I've found my maiden name in the phone book, Overgaard. So, acclimating to the frozen north was a little easier for me with Scandinavian blood than it was for Dh. Mrs. Toups '06 Sienna, AWD

Here's one on the Church Building theme, but continuing the circle theme ... sort of. It's a pretty well known (non USA) place so it should go quick without hints.
This is gonna be like playing "who gets the last slice of cake!" Many of us recognize it - it's just a matter of time before someone just goes ahead and "takes" it! But I'll stand back here (I've had way more than my share of "cake" already in this game) MB
Here's one on the Church Building theme, but continuing the circle theme ... sort of. It's a pretty well known (non USA) place so it should go quick without hints.
Is it a coastal or river island? I'm stumped.
So, is there an unspoken rule or guideline, for when we immediately know the answer---how much time should we respectfully allow, for others to play along and try to dig up the answer, before we go ahead and answer? -C

I've made some cursory google searchs on a couple ideas that came to mind, but without a match. I've got a photo I'd like to post, but will have to come up with an answer first....and I'm heading to work so it won't be tonight.
It is a tidal island at the mouth of a river. That should pretty much wrap it up for those that didnt recognize it.

Fortunately, Evan, while the urge to answer may mount, I'm not to that level just yet Identifying that airstrip in NV gave me such a thrill, that should tide me over a little bit. I say (despite his atheism), AirportKid is the real saint here... [EDIT: Phew! Someone guessed it just before I posted this reply with subtle, embedded clues ]
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(ChristoB @ Aug 2 2007, 01:48 PM) </div> I guess I should work on clue subtlety. A wikipedia search for "tidal island" lists only 21 in the world, with Mont St. Michel at the top of the list. <_<
I had that same idea a few days ago so know what we're looking at, drat, but it's perhaps best that I didn't use the landmark myself because I wouldn't have been able to refrain from replacing the green arrow with either the Target Stores logo or the Circle-with-Slash universal symbol for "Banned" MB
