Hi All, Just got the coupon in the mail today from Jack Safro Toyota of Brookfield. 30k service for $429.95, plus tax. A $40 savings. It includes: a 27-point inspection oil change and filter service battery and clean cables chasis lubrication replace engine coolant service differential tune up, replace spark plugs service transmission inspect wheel bearings, drive belts, hoses, brake pads, disc drums clean/adjust brakes and rotate tires inspect fuel filter, lines, and hoses inspect and top off fluids. I normally get my oil changed and tires rotated there. $39 plus tax. So, do I really need to spend the $429 and change, or are they doing a lot of things I don't need with a prius? If I don't get the 30k service, does that void the warranty? I don't think so, but my wife wanted that question asked. Thanks for the responses. Last tank, 47.8 running the AC in the 90 degree heat of Milwaukee.
It's a rip off. Replacing engine coolant is not due. My owner's manual says to change it at 100,000 or 10 years. Differential fluid and transmission fluid are the same. Says to check (not change) it at 30,000 or 36 months. Spark plugs - Change at 120,000 or 144 months. Brakes are self adjusting. I don't know how they are going to inspect the fuel filter, since it's inside the fuel tank. Even if they do all the items listed, it's not worth $429.00. Take a good look at your owner manual and service book. Regards, Westex
a 27-point inspection oil change and filter service battery and clean cables chasis lubrication replace engine coolant service differential tune up, replace spark plugs service transmission inspect wheel bearings, drive belts, hoses, brake pads, disc drums clean/adjust brakes and rotate tires inspect fuel filter, lines, and hoses inspect and top off fluids. Two cents worth from a Toyota Tech... 27 point inspection= freebie do it! oil and filter change= every 5000 miles! rain or shine! service battery? It's a gel battery in the back and I have NEVER seen corrosion on a Prius 12v battery chasis lube? there are no lube points on a Prius! (Challenge the dealer to show you one!) coolant? 06 uses super long life coolant good to 100,000 miles! service differetial? Prius doesn't have a separate diff- it's part of the drive unit plugs? Iridium good to 100,000 miles! service trans? World standard fluid- Toyota has NO SERVICE INTERVAL FOR IT! Leave it alone! inspect bearings, belts, hoses, pads and drums? isn't that the 27 point inspection? clean and adjust the rear brakes? that one can't hurt... good preventative maint. rotate tires? Yes! every 5000 miles. inspect fuel filter?what filter? inspect hoses and lines? again, 27 point inspection. inspect and top off fluids? that should be part of the oil change! Two added points- replace the engine air filter and the cabin A/C filter. Price list--- oil change and tire rotation--$39.00 engine air filter--$25.00 A/C filter--$25.00 Your warranty will stay intact! Check the recommended maint. guide that came with your car from Toyota. (Not the one from the dealer!) and yes... I am a Toyota Certified Master Diagnostic Technician. I work for one of the last Truly Honest Dealers left in the USA. I will forever give my honest opinion when asked, and sometimes without being asked! This is my best weapon against dishonest dealers and techs and the poor image that honest dealers and honest techs are forced to deal with on a daily basis.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Bear68 @ Jul 31 2007, 08:49 PM) </div> Bear, Good suggestions, but I would add that the ATF (Type WS) needs to be changed at 60,000 miles in a Generation 2 Prius. I had the dealer do it ($85) and had the ATF analyzed (both virgin and used). The Viscosity had been reduced by 15% which indicates that it was about used up. JeffD
I got a coupon for the same service, but it was $239. Yes, you can do it yourself and it won't void the warranty, but I suggest you keep records (and maybe any receipts) to prove you were taking care of the maintenance.
Bear68, it's nice to have another Toyota tech around ! Your answer is funny because that's basically what I told the service writer when he asked if I wanted their 30k mi service special. After I quizzed him he sheepishly said, well I guess you just want your usual oil change then uh.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(beermandave @ Jul 31 2007, 08:01 PM) </div> THis is a typical rip-off tactic by the dealer to lure in stupid owners and take their money. Have you bothered to look and see what maintenance is required at 30,000 miles, in your cars passport to maintenance book? If not, it's an oil and filter change, air filter change, cabin air filter change and rotate tires. All those other items are not even required/applicable to your Prius at this time. And funny, the two things that are (air filter, cabin air ) are not even included in that service. Get the oil/filter changed, do the air filters yourself. It's super easy and saves you significant money. And you will have complied with your warranty responsibilities. DON'T LET THAT DEALER RIP YOU OFF
