I'm gonna go with Souix Gateway Airport... http://maps.google.com/maps?sourceid=navcl...sa=N&tab=il I trust the "heaven" reference is from Field of Dreams? (Well, that is how I found this answer... I started with that quote, leading me to the film, the response "No, its Iowa" then a search on Iowa airports, then looking for one near a river...) Staying with a "heavenly" reference... Mine... (a departure from airports, so to speak) [attachmentid=10264]
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(ChristoB @ Jul 30 2007, 12:47 PM) </div> Correct location, but completely unrelated to Field of Dreams. On July 19, 1989, the bypass fan of United Airlines Flight 232's DC-10's center engine failed catastrophically, throwing engine fragments like shrapnel through much of the empennage, breaching all three hydraulic systems, and rendering the aircraft uncontrollable with the control surfaces. Capt. Al Haynes & his crew succeeded in bringing the DC-10 down under marginal control using differential thrust on the wing engines to the Sioux City Airport, actually putting the aircraft down on the runway, but at the last second the starboard wing dropped & dug its wingtip, cartwheeling the DC-10 and breaking it up, coming to rest inverted in the cornfields adjacent the runway. Nonetheless, more than half the passengers survived, and most of the crew (including Al Haynes). As survivors emerged from the wreckage into the cornfield to encounter rescue workers, they were disoriented and some of them asked (thinking they had been killed) "Is this heaven?" or "Are we in heaven?" "No, you're in Iowa" the rescuers replied. MB

"Close" geographically or close in name? I checked Devil's Den State Park in Arkansas...a place I'm familiar with...but didn't see that lake. There's also a Devil's Den in Washington State, but I didn't see any water there.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(ChristoB @ Jul 31 2007, 12:42 PM) </div> While I believe you, I couldn't locate the pictured site on the broad view you posted...can you point it out for me? BTW, while I was searching around mecca for the posted image I came across this: http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&safe...p;z=15&om=1 Anyone know what that might be?
Maybe I'm not copying the link correctly... I did a search on Mecca, Saudi Arabia... zoom in 2 or 3 times, and scroll over to the right... then zoom in more. Here's a "higher up" photo from that same address I pasted. Green Arrow is Google's centermark, green circle is my addition. [attachmentid=10298]
I wonder if it is some kind of vast complex of housing, for when Mecca gets the really, really huge influx of pilgrims each year?
[EDIT: And here's my new one:] [attachmentid=10297]
IT's the Biltmore Estate http://maps.google.com/maps?t=k&q=35.5...p;z=17&om=1 My MIL visited that a few years ago on a trip up to see us. Will post another one soon. Mrs. Toups
Will post another one soon. Mrs. Toups
Here's the next one I thought of:[attachmentid=10300] This is where I got my Master's, and dh became Dr. Toups. The hint is that we could have taken a single route, with no changing to another path to reach graduate school, from our place of graduation from college.
