Whats the most you've hauled in your prius?

It's good to know that the 810-lb (365-kg) load capacity is just a "suggestion".

 

I recently moved a 7.5 foot grandfather clock. I put the front passenger seat and the rear seats in their flat position. The head of the clock fit in the front seat and the base of the clock just fit in the rear with enough room to close the hatch. The chimes rattled softly as I was driving and made a noise like wind chimes. There was enough room left over to slide in three 20" televisions next to the clock.

 

You people put me to shame! I thought I was tough because I was able to fit a 50 gallon water heater in my car (with the cardboard box.) I guess I could have put a couple of kitchen sinks in there, as well.

 

In my limited film experience, grips are definitely not petite.

 

A 6 foot water heater.

I put two 3" PVC drainage pipes in my Prius that were 10' long each. Windows and rear hatch closed, no problem. This isn't a lot, but I was impressed with how it handled the length. I was fully expecting to have the passenger window open.

2 adults, 4 suitcases, backpack full of entertainment stuff, large cooler, large rubbermaid box for snacks, briefcase, laptop in laptop case with all the accessories, 2 ski-type jackets, 3 spare stacked rubbermaid storage boxes (huge), a box full of DH's tools, and a case of oil and oil filter. oh yeah and some plastic sheets to use as seat covers "just in case", although why he wanted to take those was beyond me. travelled just fine with the rear seats up.

also: myself, the dining room table, 4 chairs, the space heater, and 4 good-sized boxes. had the rear seats folded for that.

 

More space, higher load capacity. For one, we could have shut the rear door (we had to tie the liftback down on the Prius).

 

So you got the bikes/skis INSIDE the car???? You are a great organizer!!

 

7 bags of mulch and some logs.

I just had my driveway replaced. New Driveway.

A big bougainvilla had to be removed. My Dad chopped it down with his chainsaw and my Mother and I cut it will loppers while he fed it into the shredder. It filled 7 bags and made some nice logs.

The next day I loaded it all in the Prius. The bags filled the cargo area. I put the passenger seat down and put the logs there. My parents decided they wanted the logs to burn and the mulch for the garden so I took it to them instead of the landfill. Our landfill composts garden stuff so it is recycled there anyway.


7 bags of shredded bougainvilla.


Trunk and branches cut up. Logs to burn in the fireplace next year.

That's the most I've had in there so far.

 

2 - adults
2 - teens
2 - tents
4 - sleeping bags
4 - pads
4 - back packs
4 - pair hiking boots
1 - 34 qt. cooler
1 - 27 qt. plastic tote with dry foods
1 - 27 qt. plastic tote with camp stove and cooking supplies
1 - camera bag
1 - laptop and case
plus all the miscellaneous stuff

4 weeks and 7500 miles

I can't compete with the awesome packing abilities of most of you, however, I am happy to report a harp can fit in a Prius along with a cello, the two girls who can play the instruments and me, the driver, whose musical talent covers is limited to playing the radio!

 

i've only had my car for 9 days, but i put a lot more in it than i thought would fit!



3 guys (all about 6' tall, 200 lbs-ish)

4 suitcases

2 sets of golf clubs

3 pairs of cleats

10 bags of groceries



(we were driving from Waco to Houston to play golf and stopped to buy groceries for dinner before unloading Pablo...)



it was a tight squeeze, but i still averaged about 45 mpg on the highway even with all that weight...

I posted this already in the other cargo thread but...

I fit all these boxes in the car, with 2 adults and room to spare...

3 half barrels of beer (american keg) across the back seat,
10 cases of bottled beer, passenger seat, and hatch.
one driver, and assorted other work stuff.

 

20 5'x2.5' pieces of sod folded in half, 2 adults, and 2 kids. It was only about 10 miles from the Home Depot. I thought we were going to drag the tail on every bump but we made it. The only problem was the manure smell and flies (since we could not close the windows due to the smell). The mileage went from 52ish to 25ish. lol the wife was not happy with me for spoiling her avg let alone the smell.

On my last PCS (permanent change of station) move I had about 800+ lbs between the cargo box on top and all the stuff inside. The mileage was still around 48 MPG.

 

Two adults, one kid.
A car seat.
A booster seat
three of those vacuum bags to increase capacity (one XL and two L size)
Small suitcase
Kids back pack with books, games, etc.
Kids shoes (I do not know how many pairs)
Kids books (Lotsa books)
Munchie food of various types.
Second carry on bags.


All this stuff filled the hatchback area too full to use the cover, but I could still see out the back.
The car seat did sit in the rear seat area (the child no longer uses booster seats).

And all this stuff was transported from Oxnard to near Seattle.

When I get over the embarrassment, I will share how I ran out of gas on the way
