My wife called from the local Stop&Shop to tell me she had locked the keys in the car. I calmly responded, "That's not possible, Dear." She said it was. And indeed, it was. She had left the key on the seat, covered it with her closed MacBook, and pushed the black lock button on the door. Presto, locked out! Apparently the MacBook acted as a very effective RF shield. Now you know. . . BHM
Huh. If she was able to push the black button to lock the car why is she not able to touch the handle to open it? I didn't think you could even lock the car unless it thinks the keys are outside? Unless I just made that up, which is entirely possible...

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(brick @ Jul 19 2007, 04:48 PM) </div> I bet she pressed the power lock button inside the door as she got out and then closed the door. You can do that even if you don't have the key. That's what my wife does. I'll have to warn her not to.

My daughter just confirmed that she used the inside door lock, not the outside black button. bhm
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Marlin @ Jul 20 2007, 07:58 AM) </div> If I've not mistaken, doesn't pushing the interior electric door lock switch lock while the door is open lock all doors except the open one? That is how most cars work, though admittedly I have not tested this on my Prius...
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Sarge @ Jul 20 2007, 01:00 PM) </div> Not the cars I've owned, and not the Prius. If you open the driver's door, press the interior power lock button, all of the doors, including the driver's door will lock. When you close the driver's door, it will remain locked. Unless it detects a smart key fob in the car, which will cause it to immediately unlock the driver's door when it closes. But, if it can't detect the smart key fob in the car, then the car will remain locked once the driver's door is closed.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(prius2go @ Jul 24 2007, 05:09 AM) </div> You can get a key cut to match the one in the fob just about anywhere. You don't even want to ask about a spare fob. If you have to ask, you can't afford it. The key alone will get you into the car, where you can recover and use the fob to run the car. Don't forget that to unlock the door with the key, you must pull the door handle out while unlocking. Oh, that's with a dead battery. I guess the key will activate the electric unlock so you shouldn't have to pull the handle if the battery is good.
maybe you could get an iphone to crash the wifi networks the macbook is polling, to counter its SKS interference...
