I have a 2007 Prius with 5000 miles on it. After sitting for 5 days while I was out of town. It was completely dead. Nothing came on, not even the lights. I called the dealer and he aid that they are not meant to sit for more than a couple of days or the computers will run the battery down. He suggested I put it on a trickle charger, as I did, and it seems to be charging fine. Anyone else had this happen or is the dealer just blowing smoke.

Another stupid dealer. A Prius can sit for weeks without draining the battery, unless something was left on. I always lock the doors just to make sure no doors are ajar. If you are going to leave it for an extended time, you can turn off the SKS by pushing the button under the steering wheel.

You should be able to leave it for ~2 weeks without doing anything. As Tom says, if you want to be extra careful, you can turn off the SKS, but you probably should only need to do that if you're not going to be driving it for 2+ weeks. My guess is that either you left something on (i.e. one of the inside lights), or you have a bad 12V battery. One of the Prius's (only) achilles' heels is the small 12V battery; this means that it's much more subject to draining by lights, etc. than in conventional cars.

I've left our '05 for ~2 weeks (leaving the SKS on) with no problems.

Be aware that there is a secret screen that displays 12V battery voltage on the touchscreen display.

    http://www.trilug.org/~chilcote/ToyotaPriu...s-controls.html

There are other ways of activating this, but this works. On some thread there is a great 12V battery load check proceedure that you can perform completely in the drivers seat. Someone help....where is it.

The car that you provide the info on is a Generation 1 prius. The OP owns a 2007 prius, a generation 2 vehicle. I think your post is helpful but not to the OP. Do you have the info for the gen2?

It should be able to sit as long as two weeks with no trouble. Most likely the OP left the rear hatch ajar or a light on somewhere, perhaps some time before the five day trip.

I found this on the web and it actually worked on my 2007! (It was listed for a 2005)

To enter diagnostic mode, first place the car in IG-ON mode by pressing the power button twice without pressing the brake. You can also do this while the car is running. Next hold in the Info button while switching the headlights from Off to Parking and back 3 times. Then release the Info button. The display should now enter diagnostic mode.

When I shut the car off and turned it back on again the screen was in its normal mode.

I'm not sure what to do with all the information, but I do like seeing the actual voltage on the 12v battery.

It works for both Prius generations. It's actually in the tech manuals, so it is only a secret in the sense of not common knowledge.

    Yea,

I did that. But luckily I noticed the hatch glow, and went down and investigated. The new cars have quite stiff hatch struts. If you do not give it a good push, it wont close all the way. I always check check the light cluster for the door-ajar symbol now.

A double safety-check is to simply lock the car. It won't and complains if a door or the hatch is ajar. And then your car is locked too!
