I am really surprised to see that Prius owners do not wave to each other. When my Beetle was brand new I had other Beetle owners waving at me as I passed by them. So I started to wave back. I figured the way people are so jazzed (including myself) about owning their Prii that I thought that people would wave. So my husband and I were waving at other owners and they must of thought we were nuts. Oh well. We have been trying to start a trend but it is not working
Yea, in the early days there was more of it, but now the car is so universal and most just drive it b/c it's practical, not b/c they want to be part of a clique or something.
I wave! All the time! There's a Seaside Blue that I pass, twice a day, to and from work. I wave every time. Oh, and to every other one I see, whenever I can. This morning, I got a very adamant, serious, huge-grin thumbs up from the passenger of a pickup truck!
I tried waving too, in the begining. Now most people don't even notice another Prius besides being waved too. LOL Maybe that's good, they're watching the road, well mabe not you should see what's going on around you too.
I actually got my first wave today on the way home from work after almost three months with my Prius. I waved back but dont usually initiate on my own. My wife and I usually point out the Pri that we pass by though.
No one waves in this area either. I usually notice other Prii, and will return wave if they wave first.
At first I got tons of waves: responses and initiators. These days, I get very few responses and nearly no initiators.
haha, this is funny, because I was just going to ask this same question. I remember in an episode of Larry David's Curb Your Enthusiasm, when he was talking about the same thing. If I remember right, he wasn't getting too many waves in his prius either.
I got my very first wave back from someone yesterday on my way home from the New Englander gathering. Finally after 4 months someone waved back! If everyone sits around waiting for someone to wave at them, then the tradition just stops. To me it's a way of saying " Hi. Nice Car."
I'm not cruising around looking for other Prii; instead, I'm trying to get somewhere and not paying particular attention to what's coming in the opposite direction aside from avoiding running into it. Having owned a Prius for more than three years, there's really no novelty anymore in the Prius for me - I'm pleased to have one, but "jazzed" is not my point on the scale. It's great to see more on the road, but waving seems a bit cultish, and it's never seemed to me to be established enough to be a tradition.
We SO need to get all over this wave thing! I am jealous of my husband, he and all of his fellow Subaru WRX owners all have a little hand motion and when we take our Jeep out, we have a wave. I would really like to make it a policy, buy any Prius and you must wave to fellow owners (if you can take your eyes off the mileage readout for a few sec! ) Waving in IN, Jen
I wave when I see another Prius coming, I do have a hard time recognizing the older original Prius. I had a Jeep Wrangler and those owners are very loyal about waving, at least 99 out of 100 wave.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Tom 6850 @ Jul 17 2007, 05:25 AM) </div> I didn't even know what the original looked like. Looked it up on Google. Don't mean to offend anyone who might still own an earlier model, but the new models look SO much better!
I get a thumbs up and a big smile every couple of days. But I think people are reacting more to the graphics than the vehicle. But really, it's the whole package.
I always wave if I recognize another Prius in time. I haven't seen anyone wave back in 3 + months and I probably pass 2 to 3 a day on average. My wife makes fun of me for this. *shrug*
