Found the way to override Navigation without cutting wires.

I don't think anyone has figured it out yet. I will need to keep checking. I just got my Prius and it bugs me that I have to hit the I agree screen!

 

Thanks loads for the crack on the NAV ... has anyone found a crack for BT use yet?

Now to the silly question ... I often see folks listing stats for their Prius as part of their sig lines. Included data: lifetime mileage, best tank, etc. I have a 2006 Prius and can only seem to get the typical trip info via the MFD system. How are you folks getting lifetime figures and such ... is the Prius supplying those data or are you calculating or ???

Can anyone tell me when you override the Navigation screen using the OP technique, does it also allow for you to see music file and folders while moving? In other words, does it completely override the speed sensor or does it just override it for the nav system?

Sighhhhhh. I was sooooo happy about the advice for hacking the backup beeping and the seatbelt beeping ... and then I tried the hack for the NAV access while driving ... and found that it doesn't work for the 2006 Prius. DANG!!!

To be clear ... has anyone hacked the 2006 NAV yet? the 2006 BT yet?

I know about the wire cutting mod for the NAV but really don't want to get into actual mods to the vehicle.

Has anyone figured out how to override the 2007 Nav system speed monitor? I was really upset when I found out I couldn't use much of the system while my wife is driving -- I wasn't told by the salesman that so much of the system was only useable when the vehicle is stopped. I'm going to complain to Toyota -- these jerk c.y.a. lawyers have the attitude they need to protect everyone from themselves, and thus infringe on our liberties. I've been driving for 45 years, and :angry: I think I should be able to take care of myself.

 

I tried this on my 2008.......and it doesn't work. I tried it slow....fast...stopped....moving......but nothing.

What kind of luck have people had with CoastalTech's Lockpick? I have sent a couple of e mails to them about compatability with the 2008, but no response yet. Maybe that should tell me something???

I don't mind paying to get full functionality of the navigation, and bluetooth. Pretty frustrating that Toyota took this away from us!!!!

I am tempted to go buy another Garmin Nuvi 660 like I bought for my wife's jeep. Full functionality, bluetooth connection seamless! It accesses her full address book on connection, accepts and even reads her text messages to her!!!

If I can get the Prius to at least work while moving, I will be happy.

Override Navigation

Has anyone found a method for enabling the whole Nav system on the 2008 while moving? When I go on trips my wife usually is the navigator--she'd like to be able to enter destinations and such. Any "Eggs" that folks know of?

 

There's no way to override via screen buttons after 2005. Not on 2006, 2007, or 2008.

I installed the $99 Coastal device and it works nicely for the nav on my 2006.

I don't care about a bluetooth override. Since my phone contacts are only in the phone (not in the Prius), it isn't an issue. I've programmed the "home" phone number into the Prius, so I can punch that up at any time anyway. So far, I haven't had a need for the other handful of quick-call buttons.

 

I tried the hybrid disc method (current data with old version of software), didn't work and scared me to death.

Built the disc and put it in the machine, it worked fine but the hack did not work, I exepcted this - the system needs to reboot to load the old version of the OS/Firmware.

Pulled the plug on it to reboot, software kept crashing during bootup. Shrugged shoulders, it was worth a go. Machine wouldn't give me the disc back, started sweating. Tried holding eject down, holding the button when turning the machine on, timing the presses with a reboot, no joy. Wonder how long it will take me to strip down the unit and remove the disc. Eventually it did give it back, but I'm not sure what combination of things actually acheived this.

I think I will just live with the limitations.

I have Coastal's lockpick for the NAV, and cut the wire for BT. The BT cut also allows the MSG to be displayed if you're using FM and I believe it'll allow the display for MP3s as well.

 

I made good use of the advice in this chat thread for my 2007 Prius, without a navigation system but with the MFD and JBL audio system. I had already installed a VAIS MultiMediaLinQ (MML) unit, which was working well to display my iPod Playlists and Songs on the MFD, at least while stationary.

As Darell's site (linked to from the reply above) said, don't even think about cutting the speed wire to the MFD (multi-function display) to get access to audio controls while you are driving. This is very, very dangerous to do. I much prefer fumbling in the dark for my iPod, which I can't really see in the car because of my middle-aged farsightedness. I prefer to stare helplessly at its little screen while holding it at arms length in my right hand, wishing I could see the teeny, tiny song names, while praying that I can find the song I want before I crash into the car in front of me. It would not make any sense at all to instead display the Playlist and Song on the heads-up display using a the nice new VAIS MML unit, which displays the information in large, bright text just below the windshield so that I would still be watching the traffic.

So no, I would never, ever recommend cutting the purple wire shown below, and installing a nice little push-on/push-off button for enabling/disabling the connection between the speed wire and the MFD. Incidentally, also don't consider using the Coastal Tech Lockpick 3 because it seems incredibly overpriced, and would also endanger your life, but for $250 instead of endangering it for free!
