Read a good article today on the stages S1, S2, S3a, S3b, S4 used by the Prius as it warms up. Could anybody tell me what puts it into stage 4. I can follow the stages 1-3 but struggle to understand how to make it stay in stage 4. I have a scangauge so can see the temperature. I think part of my problem might be that when I leave work I can drive 16 miles without the car stopping, could this be a problem. Many Thanks

If you cannot do that you have to go above about 35mph (38mph on UK speedo) and the car will act like stage 4 even below 35mph unless you brake then it all starts again.
If you happen to come to a stop with the engine off in stage 3, your at/above 70C and have a few seconds, keep one foot on the brake pedal firmly and then hit the accelerator until the ICE comes on, it will do the Stage 4 dance and your done. Wayne
I'm still confused on what characterizes each stage. Is there a better article somewhere where you learned this?
