today while coming home from work i noticed that my lower glovebox light was on even with the door closed. (this is only when headlights are on)

i tried pushing on the door to check to see if the switch was out of adjustment or something and nothing that i could see would shut the light off.

does anyone know where the switch is? or is it just too dark for me to see something that is in plain sight?

Well Dave. If it makes you feel any better, I just checked and my lower glove box light is on with the headlights also. I can't find a switch to speak of. Just a little light in the top of the glove box. Very interesting that it would be on all the time that the headlights are on.

Just a thought.... but wouldn't it make sense that normally during the day you wouldn't need a light on in the glove box but that some clever Toyota engineer decided that when the headlights are on you might need one 'cause it might be dark in the vehicle. ;)

Yes but what if the passenger wanted to sit in the glove box and read while you are driving at nite. :)

Is the glovebox light an LED? I haven't checked, but it's suspiciously dim and yellow.

If it is there would be no reason to put a switch on it.

How did you KNOW that the light went off when you closed the door?

Maybe he was a passenger AND was sitting in the glove box. :)

the light shut off about an inch before the door was fully closed.

there was also a switch that activated the light similiar to a fridge light in the old days

Odd that they have a light for the lower one but not the top and yet for the lower one, not a switch to deactivate the light when the door is closed

Strange, the Electrical Wiring Diagram is showing a switch on the glove box light circuit. Is is part of the component including the light and the switch.

Nate, is there a way you can scan in that section or something? It is odd that they would make a glovebox light stay on at all times. Even more so if the electrical diagram shows a switch.

Okay, before I posted this, I went onto Toyota's website and downloaded the latest updates to the wiring diagram. The switch is still showing in the latest pages.

Check my album for a crop of the switch/light combo.

Looks to me to be a mistake. For one thing, the switch appears as one assembly with the light, so you don't have to look very far from the light for the switch if it exists. Mine doesn't shut off with the glove box closed and the parking lights on either.

I replied to this a week or two ago, so it got wiped...

I noticed the same thing recently. My glovebox light is on if and only if my parking/headlights are on. I can see the orange glow through the space between the glovebox door and the button.

Crazy hypothesis - I only noticed this after I disabled the reverse and seat belt beeps. Connection???

CitizenjaQ - nope, I haven't disabled either beeps, and mine stays on as well...good guess though! I'm at a loss for why it has this 'feature'.

yep i noticed the light almost immediately after receiving my car. i have examined the box and there is no obvious switch to turn off the light. i have also tried pushing on the door to "close it more" but to no avail.

it irks me because its wasting power... cant believe Toyota missed the boat on this. im still wondering if this is a widespread defect that has been pushed under the rug for it s insignificance
