Here in far north suburban Chicago, the gas at the local Speedway went from $2.90 on Monday to $3.45 on Wednesday!! I did not hear of any refinery breakdowns, pipeline bursts or other events that would cause such an increase. Any other parts of the country seeing such a ripoff? Or are we just lucky here?
3.169 to 3.499 overnight in Milwaukee (and it was 3.049 last weekend - oh why didn't I fill up then???)
Happened in the Western burbs too. Went from 3.08 last week to 3.48 this week. Good thing we own a Prius....of course, some idiot decided to pull out quickly onto a street and ram into the back of ours, so we have to take it in next week to get the bumper replaced. Stuck with a rental car with lame gas mileage.
The BP refinery in Whiting, IN shut down over half of it's production for 5 - 7 days due to "unscheduled" maintenance
The refinery in Coffeyville KS has had to shut down due to flooding. And a refinery in Ardmore Oklahoma had some hicups too (not sure on the specifics). Those affect the entire Midwest gasoline supply region. Here in Minneapolis, it is up to 3.34 or so, when last weekend I filled up at 2.89.

I think they earn more profit by putting refinery on "unscheduled maintenance" than in production. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(thezabba @ Jul 11 2007, 10:11 AM) </div>
But ain'tcha glad we have the Prius?!!! I've had mine for 10 days and absolutely love it. 54.9 miles to the gallon on the first fill up and will do another fill up today..............been driving the heck out of it and can't stop cause it's so much fun!! Anyway, thank goodness for the Prius. (My other gas saver is a 2002 Honda Goldwing Touring Bike...gets 40 mpg). New member, lots of good stuff on this site.
Gas has actually come down a bit around here. It was at $3.29 when I fuelled up this morning. ($3.31 last week).
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(N_IL_Priusfan @ Jul 11 2007, 08:49 AM) </div> Betcha if you could vote for youself a huge pay raise (congress) that gas prices would be the least of your problems and would not be worth working on for the American public. If I were a member of congress, I'd be more worried that my telephone number would come up in some madam's book that was about to be released to the press than the price of gasoline.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(John6012 @ Jul 11 2007, 12:25 PM) </div> Well, actually that would not be one of my concerns were I in office However, since I am female if it were....
Sorry folks, but the gas dropped here (at Costco) to US$2.90, down from $2.99 a week ago. We are definetly in different market area, or maybe we are in for a jump.
From $2.95 to $3.05 overnight at a nearby Chevron in Huntington Beach. I have a feeling it may be even higher when I leave work today. I filled up on Monday so I'm sitting pretty for at least another week....
Prices went from 2.87 to 2.97 here in Killeen, TX. I was debating on whether I should fill up in case it goes higher but I still have all 10 bars for fuel at 230 mi so would probably only get 2 gal.
Our BP was 2.99 yesterday on my way to work, 3.29 on the way home. Later I heard a rumor that the CEO was quitting and they needed to raise $400 million for his severance package and another $500 million for a signing bonus for the new guy.  For you pureist who are going to go search the news for that CEO article and then get all jacked up about it having been a joke I say this: It was a joke.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(mcsj @ Jul 11 2007, 11:55 AM) </div> Yes I am a new member too and finding this site to be as awesome as the car. I must admit and I am also addicted to driving my car. My husband and I carpool and I try to get to drive it all the time I like to see if I can drive the car to get better gas mileage then him. He He.... Gas prices here are around 3.00 and staying steady. In another post I saw someone that said in some ways they hoped that prices stayed high so our Prii would be worth more. In some ways I would have to agree but I sometimes start feeling bad for all the other suckers driving regular cars. But only for a second
Gasbuddy.com reports only a 5 or so cent increase in the Cheap Zone across town, but down the street from where I live it's up at least 10 cents. I've got another 300 miles worth in the tank, but that might not be enough to cover a return to prices like my last refill...
Here in MO. gas price increase was said to be blammed on all the Flooding in Kansas that it took out a refinery or pipeline.
