Hi all. Just picked up our Prius tonight. Starting to poke around to figure out where to mount a Roady. I see there is a really cool integrated product, but that isn't an option for now. I see there are a couple of power adapters, but I'm wondering if there are some pics around of people's installations. Thanks! Kermit
I mounted it to the dash with velcro, just to the right of the leftmost vent. The two wires go through the vent. Power snakes under the dash and to the green wire in the Coastal mod, and to ground (all taped). The antenna wire is gathered and tucked away under the dash, and the antenna itself sits on the dash in the forward left corner, held by a bit of double-stick tape. The wire's in the groove, and quickly ducks under the dash. Neat, and thanks to the slope of the windshield (I guess) it works fine without dropouts. Nevertheless, it's temporary. I'm installing the integrated unit.
[and to the green wire in the Coastal mod, and to ground (all taped). Guess I should ask what the Coastal mod is?
Sorry. The "Coastal mod" is the patch generously provided by Dave, which keeps the dashboard power socket powered with the key ON or OFF. It gets power from a tap over on the driver's side - a green wire under the dash. You can find the info on their site. If you do these things, be sure to avoid kinking the antenna wire. XM seems very much worth the few $$, and in this car it works great even without an external antenna because the roof is set so far back.
After some poking around today, I may go with a stalk that mounts beside the console. Can run wires in existing carpet cut and get to power adapter and possibly A piller to go outside. Have to see. May try your suggestion of having antenna on dash. Thanks! Kermit
This is exactly how I mounted my XM ROADY 2. I used the kit to place it onto the dashboard directly behind the steering wheel viewable through the top portion of the wheel. Works just beautiful.
Geesh. After seeing the heading, I thought I might get a good dose of Canadian porn. I'm sorely dissappointed.
Maybe a bit off-topic, but the Roady 2 will soon have a wearable enclosure available for it... http://www.xm411.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=3164 Very cool.
