My sister has a 2007 Lexus hybrid and had a similar experience where the car was deader than a doornail when she tried to start it one day. Turned out the hybrid battery was defective and wouldn't hold a charge. They replaced it and the car is now fine. You may want to see if the repair shop investigated this option - batteries, like anything else, can be faulty.
    Good luck.

11.5 volts on a 12 lead/acid battery with no load on it is not great. I'd expect 12 to 12.5 depending on how recently the car was running. Your battery may have been stressed a few times.

Hopefully this is the final installment. Dealer number one thinks they fixed it. I had to take it to the closest dealer per the warrantee. Here's the story:

They did a "predatory ground" test and found that the 12v battery was being drained by an errant ground somewhere. After a lot of looking around, they determined it was a "ground strap" that had come loose in the back of the car. After they reattached it, the car passed the "predatory ground" test. They have no explanation as to how the strap came loose. Why they didn't do this test the first time I brought it in, I'm sure I'll never know.

Doesn't exactly jive with my voltmater test that showed the 12v battery to have 11.5v when it died the last time, but we'll see. Maybe my voltmeter is faulty?

This might be a problem that's affecting more than my car since the tow guy said that he picked up a few "dead" Prius's in the past few months.

Thanks for all the input! I'll let you know if it's really fixed in a few weeks!

Follow up: Still going with no problems, I guess they fixed it. Key words: "predatory ground test"
