But the tape will look like hell in 4-8 years' time if the vehicle is left in the sun constantly. Check out some older cars in your locale and look at the pinstriping. You'll see what I mean. When the plastic degrades and the glue gets dry and brittle, they (both the plastic, and the glue) are a real pain to remove.
