Connection means: audio wire that plugs into external speakers and the back of your computer.

So I pluged said-cable into my iPod and the other end into Auxilary port inside the arm-rest consol. Turned on stereo. If I turned the iPod's own vollume up, I got a hissing sound in my music (no matter how I adjusted the Prius' own stereo vollume). So I turned the iPod's sound level down and the Prius' sound level up. There was no more hissing, but the music was very very quiet.

What am I doing wrong? Could it be the audio wire I used? When using my iPod in my other car (Acura RSX-S w/cassette & CD changer) I have a handy little cassette adapter that works and sounds great. So I know it's not the iPod dieing or something.

    TIA! :)

    Check out this thread.

I started with a audio cord that went from the headphone out of iPod to the Aux in. You will need to turn up the volume on the radio to get a good volume level, but I didn't have the issues you seemed to be having. I got a Belkin kit that has a charger w/ docking cable that also has a line out with volume control that can go to the Aux in Jack. I can then match the iPod's volume to the rest of the audio (FM, CD, etc). Works great for me.

Something similar in my car. But, only when the power adapter is connected to the ipod. I have one of those Juice brand car power adapters that you can switch tips on. I have a tip for my phone and one for my Ipod. I discovered that, if I plug it in while the Ipod is playing through the aux cable, I get a nasty hiss. So far, I have just been using it without the power plugged in.

I also have the Belkin Auto Kit adapter. It works well.

Plus, Starbug can get a Black one to match her Prius. :p

There is a know ground loop issue when you hook up iPod via headphone jack and power adapter. you get annoying hum over the music. There is a lot of stuff on this. Google "iPod Ground Loop problem" or some variation for help.

I hate to suggest this, but I'll go for it: Have you chosen the "mode" on the stereo system to AUX instead of AM, FM or CD?

I have problem (as above) - IPod and Prius.
I was thinking if I have USB slot then connection will be easy. After conection iPod looks like connected to computer without iTunes.
If somebody has experience with that let me know. I ask my dealer but tomorrow is National Holiday, so all off.
