As I just purchased one of each of these items off of Ebay, I thought I'd do a small review as they are worlds apart regarding fit and finish:

Overall impressions: The more expensive item (Thinner/Smaller) is lower quality though easier to install and remove/reinstall if needed. No Velcro required. It’s not as wide from front to back so it blocks less glare. Aesthetically it doesn’t stand up at all to the less expensive one and looks as though not much time or effort is put into manufacturing. Remember, this is just my opinion. Here's some extra pictures to help you make up your mind.

Thanks for the comparison-I definietely think the cheaper one is by far the better product. Do you think one really needs this? I use my navigation and blue toothed phone all the time, especially now that I have the Coastal lock-pick installed and it works perfectly. I am thinking about this modification, what do you think?

Thanks, nice summary/review. I have the Priushoods version (velcro, thick) and Robin used to be a PC sponsor and I've been through 4 different generations of her hoods (cloth w/ minimal thickener, leather w/o stiffener, leather w/stiffener, and now the current plastic version. The plastic is clearly the best, the velcro held up through the summer heat well.

    Cairo,
Yes, I really do think this accessory is a must. Without it, that extra split second required to focus on the screen while it's glared up takes your eyes off the road longer then without the glare. IMHO, all automobiles should have HUD's, like my 93 Nissan Altima had. I never had to take my eyes off the road to check my speed. Only drawback was the windshield cost $1300.00 to replace!!

    Evan,
We are on our 2nd generation of her product, the first being the leather, which didn't hold up too well in the summer Georgia sun (what can you expect from leather in the sun though  ) I went with the other version initially because of the lack of velcro on the install. If I had to do it again, I'd purchase another Priushoods version. It would be nice if she would modify her design to allow install like her competition.

I installed the hood made by Priushoods and really like it - blocks the glare and is pretty sturdy also.

I have a reinforced leather (suede?) hood with velcro from Robin that someone is welcome to. I "upgraded" to the rigid plastic one that Robin now offers. The leather one is about 18 months old and a little faded.

Let me know if you are interested...shipping (a couple of bucks?) will be our responsibility.

Great post. I've been thinking about getting a MFD hood and your photos really clarify the differences.

Not sure if it fits the bill.

I got a PriusHoods hood and love it. The wife used to complain about the glare and having to hold her hand up to block the sun. Got the hood, now all is better. Easy to install w/ the Velcro. Definitely worth it. A no brainer.

I've got a lot of Robin's products as well. I had the leather with stiffener hood and liked it but when the hard plastic one came out bought that and it is the best.

I also have a number of her leather products that are all well-made. The center console cover and all four armrest covers. I also have the leather glove box covers top and bottom. This was before they came out with the textured plastic. I have a 2005. I asked Robin for a leather cover for the drivers side to mirror the glove box. It so happened she was working on a beta version and as soon as it was ready she let me know. I really like them all.

The MFD hood really does improve visibility and I would buy another one as part of my basic first mods when I buy a new Prius. It's right up there with Brian's BT techplate.

I got the cheaper Velcro one. Nice product. Took FOREVER to ship (I did not contact them and ask if it had shipped as the original poster did). I make it a point to never give repeat business to anyone that takes that long to ship without explanation. Not that I'll ever need a second one...

Don't worry. She'll get them back in stock again. Shoot her an e-mail and ask her when.

You got to the right ebay GPS/Prius shade page. Try this ebay item number; it should get U there directly: 110112573682. The unit does what's advertised: The display is so much easier to read now. Try it; you'll like it :)

I have the Priushood for the Prius MFD display and a hood made by Priushood for my Gramin Nuvi 660. I think they are both worth it on cutting down the glare. Plus they both look good on the units.

    Hello,

I have the Prius Hodd. I had to put a 4" strip of Velcro on the back to improve stabilitiy. Without this the hood was dropping forward. It eems the 2 smaill strips on the sides is not enough.

I have the Prius Hood , it took a while for shipping because I ordered the leather armrest covers. she/he did email me and let me know it was delayed, I didn't mind, because i knew it was a superior product. I'm very happy.
