3.5g really. It is merely slapping on the stuff from the ipod mini. So yes the dock connector will work. I haven't done the Icelink because i Have XM I am waiting for the coastal solution that will allow both.

I got an email response from dension, in which they admitted that the Icelink does not work with a package #9 2004 prius. I think that means they don't know how to hook it into the JBL audio. They did say they were working on the problem and would have it fixed in about a month (that was last week).

On the plus side I got the email response very quickly (<24hrs) and they put me on an autonotify waiting list for when they figure it out.

Just got this e-mail back from Dension after trying to order an ice>Link for my 2005 Option 6 (which is like the '04 Option 9)...

I'll follow up if I learn anything more.

The reason it does not work on those cars is that Toyota on some models disabled the Cd changer port that we would normally connect the icelink into. They did this im assuming becuase the changer is built in so for simplicity and cost they just didnt put in the functions needed to control anything external.

In a separate conversation (by phone) with the iPod2Car folks, they said that their product should work. I will update here when I receive mine and try it for myself.

 

According to some other threads the iPod2car should work just fine. There was a time when it didn't but it looks like figured out what was going on and made it work now.

Here's a thread mentioning it and also using it in a car with the CD changer. http://www.priuschat.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4053 It appears you just unplug the CD changer and and plug the iPod to car in its place.

 

I got an email from Dension today that says they now have a version of IceLink that will work with the package 9 (JBL) audio. At least I think that is wat they meant. They only said that "We are excited to announce that the ice>Link is now available for your vehicle". This was in responce to an email I sent them in july in which I asked about the package 9 prius and they said they would get back to me when they had it working.

Anyone who was interested in the IceLink and has JBL audio might want to give Dension a call.

 

Well, I've now received my iPod2Car unit. I just haven't had any time to put it in, but if it works with my 2005/#6 (former 2004/#9), then I'll have saved $100 over the Dension unit.

 

This page says that there is an ice-link for the '04 Prius, however there is a caveat that says: "Please note that this kit may not work with the 6cd in-dash radio on certain models."

My best guess is that if you got the JBL audio package ('04 option packages 5, 8, and 9), that the CD changer is tied directly into the head-end, leaving you with a free CD changer port, but if you installed the optional Toyota CD changer, you either don't get the port, or they figure that your CD changer has it tied up. Or maybe they give two entirely different head-end units depending on if you get the JBL unit or the standard unit.

In any case, as far as I can tell, if you have the JBL stereo, it looks like you can use ipod2car, icelink, or the XM solutions being tossed around.
