Excellent Mileage!

    Yeah, at the beginning of the tank, I got 3.4L/100km after 33kms. After that, I was tempted to keep it there... obviously I couldn't cause it's 4.0 now but yeah, I'm not complaining. I'm still after that elusive 3.9 though cause 3.9 sounds better :p :p .

    The weird thing is that the bottom half of my tank is usually 80km/pip. For pip 4 and 5 it was. But this last bit (pip 3) I went over 120kms before it dropped to 2 pips.

    You're well on pace to hit 1000km! :). 4.5L/100km got me exactly 1000km, and then it ran out of gas.

    That is, if I can get there. My current record is 840.7kms with 4.2L/100km showing on the MFD. I went about 20kms on the blinking bar. I put in 37.366litres that day (4.44L/100km was the calc'd avg)


    I know this one will blink after 800kms (hopefully later) but I don't know how far I can push it on the blinking bar.

    Edit: Also, I have to make sure I don't get the blinking bar before Wed. I'm sure climbing up to SFU will cause some problems (i.e. car thinking it's out of gas) if it's that low


    Edit2: The Add Fuel light came on :( at 798kms.... how far should I push it?

    bah... I caved in. That blinking light is just too much...

    I pumped at 851.7 kms at 34.780 litres. Probably should've tried for 1,000 like Presto said but I haven't had much familiarity with my blinking light so I wasn't gonna push it (53kms on the blinking light is definitely the farthest I've gone). But given that the pump stopped at 34 litres, I definitely had plenty left on reserve (if the bladder plays nice that is).


    The bad news is that I forgot to take a photo (grrr) but I did take a photo earlier today at 812kms so all is not lost.

    The good news is that it's the earliest I've gotten a record tank (once per summer) so it is promising!


    Oh and the final mpg avg is 4.0L/100km on the MFD and 4.08L/100km by hand.

    That is an awesome tank. Congratulations !!!

    What's more fascinating is that your calculations are dead accurate compared to the final MFD average. That is something I've never achieved, since for me the hand calcs at the pump always seem to report 1-2% lower FE.

    May I ask if you used any techniques for this tank (DWL, DWB, WU P&G, P&G, etc )?

    P&G (not sure what the others stand for).

    Whenever possible, I P&G'd like my life depended on it. The weekends, I can't do it since we go shopping and such so it's short trips.

    Pulse and Glide plus Warp Stealth in the Prius II for maximum FE …

    There may be a few others that may also be helpful.

    Yow... that is awesome! You probably had at least 100km (@ 5.0L/100km) left in the tank, but it gets nerve racking knowing that the tank is pretty close to empty. I've had my white knuckle moments with the fuel tank, and I try not to get myself in that situation, but it happens every now and then ;)

    We returned from a 5000 trip the 1st of June that took us thru New Mexico, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma & Texas. Over the entire trip we averaged a little over 59 MPG. Our best tankful was from Hereford, TX, down thru South Central New Mexico and back up to Albuquerque where we got just over 71 MPG. We are certainly satisfied with the performance of this car. We never get in a hurry and most of the trip was driven at speeds between 58 & 60 mph. I'm sure that helped with the good mileage.
    I was surprised at it's performance in the mountains. We went up over Wolf Creek Pass & Laveta Pass in Colorado with no problems whatsoever.

    Yeah, 53kms on the blinking light is the farthest I've ever travelled on the blinking light. Plus, I was going away on Sun so my bro and dad didn't share the same enthusiasm about driving with a blinking light haha.

    Not bad at all. In the mountains the mileage dropped back into the 40's but picked right back up again when we started back across Eastern Colorado and Kansas.

    This is awesome. I am going to buy my first prius in the late summer and I live in Dallas, so my AC use will be similar. I might bother you for some advice as the time draws near.

    Ditto. I drove to Boston from New York with OEM wheels/tires (42/40psi) and got 60 MPG. The average dropped to 59 MPG when I got back to NY.

    hmm.... over 300kms in this new tank and I'm back to 4.0L/100km!

    Yeesh, I never thought I'd get back to back tanks as good as this.

    Edit: Hmm.. might not get 4.0 through the tank since I'm driving down to the States this weekend which means 70mph driving (which nets me 5.1L/100km). Any Western WA resident can give me a few good alternative routes that are slower? (say 50 or 60mph?).
