Took my car for its first oil change tonight @ 5015 miles. Asked the service guy to inflate my tires to 42/40... He said "Uhhhh Ok, but I don't recommend it... I'll show you why" He then took me out to the car and showed me Toyota's spec on the car and explained about tire wear and all that good jive. He said he'd do it because of people wanting to get better mileage and the tire is rated at 44 max. That little bit impressed me, so I said, "Huh. I'm impressed. Can you tell me what the "B" is for?" This was immediately following a statement on how salesmen don't educate buyers well enough about the cars they sell. He said "A what? That's gotta be new... Show me" I did, and he laughed and said "I don't know... backup?" and then we both laughed. I explained about engine braking and then he said how he was surprised the car had it, because the mechanicals don't kick in until 7mph, so until then you're really just "regenning" the hybrid batteries... Nonetheless, I was impressed with this guy... At least he said "Huh. I do not know"
I'm glad my dealer is more up to speed then this guy. My dealer is the one who told me to inflate the tires to 42/40 then I read about it here when i came upon this site.

The thread title seems a tad inaccurate. Educated?? I'll assume this was a service advisor and not a Prius tech. If so, maybe the ignorance is excusable, but I'd still think they should know about "B." It's been on the car for years. If it was the tech, no way I'd have him work on my car.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(JimboK @ Jun 26 2007, 12:03 PM) </div> Well that's why the "almost" was put it... It was a service advisor, not the guy who was doing the oil change. He told me of a lady who brought her Prius in because she had taken it elsewhere and they had overfilled the oil... Can that throw a dummy light?
