Prius unpairs other bluetooth devices (Treo 650)

Been using my Treo 650 with my Prius since I bought the car -- no problems with bluetooth in the car. However. whenever it connects with the phone, it disconnects any other bluetooth devices that had been previously paired, which means I have to re-pair my headset every time I get out of the car.

At first I thought it was the bluetooth headset I was using (the Treo headset), but it's happening with my new Plantronics headset as well.

This is becoming a real issue (i.e. PITA), so I'm hoping someone can share some insight....

    Thanks so much --

That's how bluetooth works. You can only have connection with one device at a time.

I realize that. What I mean is that I have to re-pair the connection with the other bluetooth device.. I don't have to do that if I use, say, my bluetooth keyboard. It doesn't unpair anything else. Plus, if I pair my bluetooth headset, the Prius bluetooth remains paired (i.e., I don't have to re-pair it every time I get in the car).

Although most (not all) bluetooth devices allow only one concurrent connection with another device, it is usually possible to pair multiple devices so you don't have to go through process of exchanging a PIN again. Prius can store multiple phones, and most phones can store multiple devices. I think the OP is referring to this and not to the actual transmission.

It's possible that particular brand and model of phone only allows one paired device with the bluetooth profile "handsfree". The handsfree profile is used for BT devices capable of dialing a number (e.g., some kind of keyboard and display). I'd suggest trying to pair the Treo with its original headset and the new Plantronics at the same time, to see if it will remember both. If not, the problem is with the phone.

If possible, try to use different profiles for different devices. Your Prius needs the "handsfree" profile, but a simple headset could use the profile "headset". This profile only transmits sound both ways and the signal for the button for taking a call, but no display or keyboard.

Ah, I figured that by pair you meant connect - what's your carrier and have you made sure the firmware is up to date?

I have Sprint -- I'm pretty sure the firmware's up to date, but I'll check...

I have the headset using the "headset" profile (the only other profile is "car kit").

I have two different headsets, my laptop, and an external keyboard, all of which remain paired together. It seems to be just the Prius that takes over my bluetooth world....
