That Prius hood is not currently on ebay. There was a second kind of hood for the MFD on ebay, a Glarestomper. Any info on pros and cons for each kind would be appreciated.
Wait for the Priushood to come back in stock. The other one looks like the first generation of the Priushood (now on it's 4th generation). The Priushood is a firm textured plastic that looks very OEM, sticks out further on top and covers more on the sides. Well worth waiting for, esp. since the price will be about the same.

Here's a heads up...my 2005 Prius is at the shop getting its screen replaced..the car isn't 3 years old yet (bought new June 2005) but has high mileage (95k). Last week after getting the oil changed, the car fired up but no screen function. Radio tuning dead, although the radio itself worked. No control available for climate control, and no fuel information. I was able to get it to the dealership without problems. Bottom line-a new screen runs $1,200.00, but a refurbished one is about $450.00, with another $150.00 for installation. After I bitched to the service guy about it, they got Toyota to go 50-50 with me on the costs. Other than tires and windshield damage, this is the first major failure I've had with the car. I don't know if it's the miles, or just bad luck. I didn't buy the "extended warranty" since these are usually just profit generators for the dealerships. I'd be curious to find out if my situation is unique, or if others have had similar problems. Fred in Texas
A quick search of "MFD replacement" will reveal that your case is not unique. What is a bit unique is that you should have the 'good' version of the MFD in your late '05 Prius. The more common 'bad MFDs' were in the '04s and very early '05s. Certainly with any complex electronic component things can go bad or they can last seemingly forever, I think you situation is more just a bad luck one. Take heart that even if you'd have purchased the 100k warranty at the ultra cheap Priuschat discount price of ~$1000 you're still money ahead, esp. with Toyota splitting the replacement cost with you. Nearing 100k miles with the very minimal repairs you've had I'd say you're doing quite well.
Hi Fred, sorry to hear of your bad luck. You just said a contradiction of terms though . The mfd failure, out of our original warranty, and under our extended warranty, in essence paid for our extended service contract, and then some. More accurately one might say that the extended warranty is like playing craps in Vegas. Sometime you hit, and sometimes it's snake eyes. Usually craps are a profit generator for Vegas, but as I (and Clint Eastwood) like to say, "do you feel lucky"
They are selling the OEM style hoods again, I just bought one, 16 left. eBay Motors: Toyota Prius Sun Visor Hood for your Display Screen (item 110223374910 end time Feb-20-08 10:01:49 PST)
oh, heck, radioguy... I'll go out on a limb and make the leap that if you're into radios, you can solder, and could likely have fixed it yourself if you'd been around the forums just a little longer. *sigh* . _H*
