That is the new island which just broke the surface of the South Pacific near Tonga.
Most of what you see is pumice floating on the surface of the ocean.

That would be for lack of an official name or better term "Face Island" here. Click on the underline "KML at the top of the map to get a look in Google Earth.

    Great!
I'll be off-line the next couple of days, so if hints are needed, feel free to step in. :)

Ok guys, a bit of a bump and a hint.
This site relates closely to a subject near and dear to all of us on PriusChat.

Leaky Pipeline in Prudhoe Bay, AK. Google Maps didn't have any high resolution images at the site but the pic came from Google Earth.

Good job on the leaky pipeline. If you search around in that area it's pretty revolting how much oil is soaked into the permafrost. So much for the 'environmentally friendly' aspect.

I tried to follow the pipeline from your image down through the state and it is a truly incredible accomplishment. The logistics that had to have been put in place to put that together are very impressive. Agreed though, someone certainly needs to go back and plug the holes.

And the answer is Fort Monroe, VA!

    http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&...p;z=16&om=1

That took some googling (my wife had the hint that worked!)

Here is one with a hint.

    Think Masters.

Well, it's not Augusta, that would've been too easy. Searched other courses in the Augusta area, but didn't find a match.

Yes that would have been way too easy!

Y'all will have to think some more before I post the next hint.

    I'll give three hints:

    1) The Masters refered to does not occur on a golf course, but does occur within the image.

    2) Like that other Masters an Azalea plays an important role.

    3) Finally, Victory can also be found in the image.

It is Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Ga.
    [attachmentid=9174]
I'll try one with three hints:
    1. It is visible from space
    2. It is not a volcanic crater.
    3. It is not an impact (meteor) crater.

Okay, I'll post a new one, then. :) I think they're getting the images from Google Earth (which is a free desktop app).

Hint: One of these buildings has the plundered remains of a saint.

No, but Palo Duro Canyon south of Amarillo is almost deep enough to fly an airplane in, because I did that in 1991 taking pictures of it from my Cessna.

Dang - now I gotta go track down a fresh landmark - OK - gimme a few minutes ...

Everyone knows where this lake is, but very few know its name ...

I think that your original image is mis-labeled - the image I posted is not from that continent, but your image is clearly the same. :( Good sleuthing, unfortunately somebody mis-labeled it for you.

Also, I'm pretty sure that the diamond mine would not be large enough to be visible from space.

There is clear imagery on both Google Maps and Google Earth of the mystery location. I'll leave it open for a little bit, and see if anybody can get it.
