OK..... i'm not happy with weathertech [IMG] i think their "easy to install, no tape" is misleading because they certainly didn't warn us about those ugly clips?

are the clips supposed to show? mine do and i DON'T LIKE IT! and from earlier posts.... i obviously need thos clips or they will just fly off (or maybe theirs flew off even with the clips?)

i like how the front ones look, in the channel (we've had tape on ones, in the past and i think these channel ones look neater overall!)

    ya..... POO on weathertech! [IMG]

No problem at all so far. It's been through a few heavy rainstorms as well as various types of carwashes.
    No rattling or anything.

My avatar's too small to show any details. I'll dig out some close-up pics and post them later.

I am glad they are holding on for you. I would have thought the wind catching under them would eventually pull them off. Yours look nice but I feel mine are more secure except for the clips problems mention in earlier post.

I leave my rear windows up when driving so I have not had the problem of losing mine. Weathertech probably should have added doublesided tape on the top outside edge which goes behind the window frame.

I have had mine 6 month and they look and work fine after we figured out how to install.

The clips are visible at close examination, well not in the picture. The rear clip is about 4-1/2" forward from the rear corner of window channel and the front clips are about 3-1/2" back from the front edge. They only show about 3/8" by the width of the clip through the tinted finish. The majority of the clips are up inside the channel. They are not exposed to the outside of the deflectors. The outside edge curves with the deflector. The deflector slides between the clip and the window frame. The clips probably wiould not be viewable if I had bought the darker deflectors. You have to be looking for them through the deflectors and know they are there because that is where the directions said put them.

The poster before me did not have clips. His defectors are glued on the out side of the window frame (I believe). That is why I said I thought high winds would eventually pull them off.

I have Weathertech deflectors on my 2005 Morano, and I put them on a friend's 2007 Jeep Commander. I also have deflectors on my 2002 Suburban and the 2001 F-150 I sold my daughter and son in law, and others.

Yes, the Suburban is parked most of the time.

i ended up calling weathetech yesterday because when i looked in the driveway yesterday morning.... there was the passenger side, rear deflector..... so WHAT the heck did we do wrong????

i explained the problem and they said although we had the clips in.... we had the deflector in incorrectly and faxed the cutaway diagram......

uhm... WHY isn't that part of the instructions??????????????????????????????????

the deflectors are now secure (or at least they feel secure!) AND you no longer see the clips form the outside!

i never installed my printer software when i redid windows..... but i'll try to find the time to do that tonight so i can scan their fax and post it in here!

    dumb weathertech!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i'm just really glad we solved the problem... because i think the in channel installation is so much neater and cleaner than the tape on the outside version!

I put the weather-tech ones on without the clips. The rear ones have tape on each end. I got frustrated with the clips, so decided to give it a shot without them and it worked OK but I had to be careful not to get the rubber gasket stuck turned in so I had to pull hard for them to clear it. They are surprisingly pliable. The front ones are very tight and I am keeping the rear ones closed most of the time to let the tape stick. I had the stick on kind on my last car and did not like the way they looked. I like these "in the channel" ones much better since they look like they're part of the car.

Got mine this morning, had the fronts in very easy the rears only took about 3-4 mins each. The only thing I don't like about them is the rear doors with the windows open have no protection for the rear part of the windows, but I did only install the rears to make it look right.

Our deflectors arrived, and my Dear Hubby put them on. Thank you all for hints/tips/grumbles concerning the clips!
DH says the secret is to apply equal pressure to four places at once, and firmly push into place :)

I love them. Here are pictures:

front took about 5 mins for first and 3 for the second,
rear took about 15 mins for first and 5 for the second.
even pressure at both clips while carefully settings ends
gets it close, then I used the tool to unfold the gasket and
it seemed to sort of snap into place when everything was right.

P.S. I really do love Trickin out her Prius

I chose the WeatherTech because I have seen MANY 'tape on' deflectors flapping in the breeze. I, too, debated getting and installing the rears. Like others I did it mostly for symmetry since my primary reason for getting them was to leave the windows open an inch or so in the summer when it might T-Storm mid afternoon. Just having the front windows cracked DOES make a big difference in internal heat when it is sunny and 90F outside.
If you install the rears, they do help ventilate the car when there is no chance of rain or you are driving and want some air without the 'helicopter noise' effect.

I am SO glad to see that I wasn't the only one who had problems with Weathertech's lousy instructions.

I did the fronts easily but called engineer hubby to assist with the back. It took him 15 minutes or so to figure out how to do the clips. Then I did the other window in less than 5. They do look good though.

Got the WeatherTech deflectors also. I had a tough time with the rear ones...instructions were terrible. Two calls to them, first call was useless, second one they emailed the right directions, easy! Now, I just looked in the folder, and I can not find the emailed directions. I have used them in the past on other vehicles and never a problem...except this set, due to poor instrcutions. They are the best as usual once installed!

I am sorry to say the post below is incorrect. The rear window deflectors are useless. They will let rain in at the back of the window near the top. The rear of the back door windows on the prius are not at a 90 degree angle to the top of the window. So if you crack the rear windows anymore than a very small fraction of an inch, the window starts to angle away from the deflector and could let rain in at the back edge near the top. The rear deflectors need to be redesigned with a rear leg that covers the window angle at back near the top. Similar to the long leg on the front edge of the front window deflectors, but not as long.

Great job explaining and illustrating. You should be a technical writer, or at least sell your instructions to the idiots at WeatherTech. It took about 30 seconds to install the front set, but I spent a futile hour with the rear set the first time around. Finally came upstairs to pour myself a double, and decided to check out the forums. My compliments to your photographer too. I'll let you know if and how it works for me....
