    I am hoping someone can validate the MPG #'s for me.

    First some background;

    First tank of gas (on an '07)...all highway miles

    I am at 292 miles and still have 1 PIP over half of a tank.

    Granted I know mileage is supposed to be good but that seems too good. My wife has a Prius as well and hers has never had mileage like this. I am hoping that all of you with extensive driving can help with this.

    Your current gauge reading is not a good indicator of fuel mileage. The gauge is not linear. Having said that, 292 miles is reasonable for 4 pips gone.

    What does your Consumption screen say for tank MPG?

    And what was the mileage of the car when you first got it?

    the odometer was at 60...the MFD had been 0'd...so I am at 290+ on the MFD ( 350+ on the odometer )with a little more than half a tank

    The MFD is the better indicator. I haven't done a head-to-head comparison between that and calculated MPG based on actual fillups, but those that have report a fairly small difference when figured over several tanks.

    Though it depends on your driving conditions, you can probably improve on 46.9.

    Regardless, enjoy your new car. And (since I missed this first time around), welcome to PriusChat!

    Welcome to the "Guess Gauge" some pips drop slow; others drop fast. Don't get excited either way. I suspect the next few won't last long. I can go from 3 pips to 1 in 35 miles. If you fill up now and can pump some 6.2 gallons in then the MFD is reasonably accurate.
