Just an FYI: My Hewlett Packard inkjet printer recently ran out of ink and the HP replacement cartridge I bought came with a postage-paid envelope to send back the old cartridge to be recycled. Good thinkin' HP!
Good on 'em. It's great to see companies making it easier for this stuff to happen. It probably also saves them scads of cash in the end. That's really the best part of all. THEY have an incentive to drive it so it'll probably last.
I just heard of a company around here where you bring in your used toner cartridges and they provide you with recycled, refilled cartridges.
I had to do a double take on this thread. Toner cart recycling is so 1997... A true environmental note would be to ditch your inkjet in favor a laser. I've had a laser printer at the house since 1996. I've only replaced the toner cartridge twice. I used to buy inkjet carts every few months. Nate

The interesting thing about this HP Program, like tripp mentioned, is that it benefits them too, becuase they have to pay for one less cartridge to manufacture. And it's easier for us who are too lazy or too busy to refill the cartridges (I've always like the idea, but never actually gotten around to refilling my own cartridge). All we have to do is throw the thing in the mail and the world is a happier place.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(jbullard @ Jun 6 2007, 07:56 PM) </div> More to that point, we have a Lexmark C510 laserjet printer in our office. This machine uses 4 seperate cartridges: black toner, cyan toner, magenta toner, and yellow toner. Each cartridge costs $99.00 EACH (at newegg.com). If you had to replace all 4 cartridges you'd be spending $396.00 on toner ALONE. Of course, this same printer costs about $599.00. More to the point, though, is the high cost of laser cartridges for low-end print users.
Next time your HP cartridge runs out try cartridge world. I just refilled my black and color cartridges for $25.00. They have to be HP cartridges not the cheep knock offs.
Office Max gives you 6$ for the spent cartridge. It used to be a free ream of paper. Used cartrideges have value, and OfficeMax takes them, fills them, and puts them back on the shelf for a little less than the OME cartridge. Its a tip...These companies don't make the money on the printer, they make it on the ink! One could point to the GM/big oil business model and make similar statements.
