Just got a 2007 Prius w/Package #2 in Classic Silver Metallic. Seems like a great car so far (only 600 miles so far). Anyone out there with a generation 2 (2004-2007) with a lot of miles on it. How has the reliability been? What is the highest mileage that you know of on a generation 2?

As of yesterday, I'm at 100k. Never had a vehicle go this far with this little maintenance, and no reliability issues. Woohoo! B)

Can you give some details of the service required (outside of the scheduled maintenance)? Is it a 2004 Prius?

I was just reading a thread last night at BITOG where one of the posters had data based on 200 Prii in a fleet service along with other vehicles for comparison. The Prius had the best reliability by far compared to the other vehicles in their fleet. Some were over 150k and a few were over 200k.

I just spent an hour trying to find the thread again, but can't find it. Their search function sucks out loud.

Turned 35,000 just over a year. No problems, no dealer visits, just gas and go! Holding steady at 50 mpgs. :) :) :)

I thought these cars were supposed to drop dead at 109,000 miles. Sounds like a few of you are well past the drop dead date :)

On a serious note, TrueDelta will be providing reliability updates every three months as the Prii in its panel age. If and when they do start becoming problematic, it'll show up promptly.

Just so you don't think the Prius is perfect...

    1) MFD malfunctioned at 46,000 miles. It turns on and off erratically.
    2) ABS malfunctioned at 35,000 miles... problem with cabling.
    3) Front axle changed at 48,000 miles
    4) Car began shifting by itself into neutral. Computers reprogrammed, mechanics unable to identify problem, car fixed itself.

    Currently at 63,000 miles.

What was the cause of the front axle needing to be changed?

What year is your car? 2004? Did they fix problem 2 under warranty?

How much did this stuff cost to fix? Did you have the extended warranty?
