I always called the thing that held my keys a key ring or a key chain until about 15 years ago when I worked with a guy from Ireland. He called the thing hanging from the ring that wasn't a key a fob. I had never heard the term before. He said it was common in the UK... it's becoming more common here.

:lol: I think fob is just easier to descibe it other than saying, "it's that little black thingy with the buttons on it and the concealed emergency key, that I can keep in my pocket because I have SKS on my Prius" device.
