Sounds good but how much were the two contracts? Without specifying the weight ($$ amount) the push is meaningless.

It is interesting they are not going with Cobasys for the battery pack using the A123 modules for the E-Flex. The contract with Cobasys is just for the 2-mode hybrid then?

Cobasys is still on. GM has said that they are going to look at several companies for battery tech.

GM is taking a very different approach from Toyota on this. Contracting out to multiple companies instead of doing everything in-house. Will they be able to speed up and bring Volt to production in 2-3 years this way? For reference, it took Toyota about 3 years to bring the first Prius to Production by doing everything in-house.

Cobasys is NimH, which is considered fine for hybrids, but apparently not for PHEV/BEVs (despite some evidence to the contrary). And why not exclude Chevron, the oil company and part owner of Cobasys, from the emerging battery market?

This article was light on numbers. What about projected fuel-efficiency? Is the 2-mode hybrid still geared for a modest 25% improvement?
