Maybe he'd get it if you said "It only costs me $30 to fill my tank after going 600 miles." Or whatever figure goes with your current gas prices.

How often does he have to haul something you couldn't get into your Prius? Ask about the number of miles each year versus the number of miles he drives in a year. If he has to haul something large every day, he's right to have the pickup.

As they point out, less buying power means a slower economy, good for hybrid sales not good for the disadvantaged or the middle class.

 

Well, we got all you guys beat here in W. Michigan.....$3.65 for regular.

I filled my Prius on the 18th @ $3.29.

Today is now Wednesday and I have currently 281 miles and have 4 pips left....not too bad i think!

I am pretty sure these high prices are really gonna affect those going on road trips this holiday weekend by either staying near home or having to make serious readjustments on what they are spending for trips.

Makes me really glad I got my Prius when I did.....I can bet now those waiting lists will be filling up again

 

Averaging $3.05 - $3.09 here in Central Texas but did see at one of the Walmart stations for $2.99. Finally, I don't find myself wasting gas driving all over town looking for the cheapest gas.

 

Gas went up .10 yesterday here in South Central, PA. Low octane now sits at $3.09. We live in a heavy tourist area and have noticed a dramatic drop in visitors this year, which for the residents is a good thing =) although I'm sure the tourism industry doesn't think so...

 

Hey, Darken, I'm coming down to Lancaster for my own covered bridge tour this weekend! Take pictures, enjoy the countryside. I did one over Easter and was really neat. Travelling the slower roads in that part of PA is great for MPG...and for ones sanity. I am filling up on $25 now...was just $20.

Ultimately no gas is right. Most of us can't do it now.

However, I agree about low gas prices. There's a bill up now the House to make it a Federal crime to do "gas gouging". I have no argument about that, but I'll say the forbidden phrase. "Increase gas taxes, as in Europe."
At least then the money can be done for something more constructive (such as repairing energy wasting potholes), instead of lining the pockets of the already ridiculously wealthy.

Compared to the average car loan payment, or the DVD upgrade, or even carpeted floor mats, this really is insignificant. I've spent more than $146 just on tires for my bicycles this year.

 

Why is it that during the course of 20th century history, gasoline became the only commodity for which a 'low' price is (seemingly) entitled? Sure people will grumble about the price of a loaf of bread or a bottle of water, both products that, at the basic level, are far more important than gasoline; but gasoline really brings out the whiners. The fact is, our gasoline is still dirt cheap by global standards.

Perhaps the thing that I find the funniest, though, are folks who would consider themselves diehard conservatives except when it concerns the price of gas. Suddenly the free-market economy and capitalism aren't good anymore, and government intervention is necessary. Capitalism is apparently all well and good until it comes back to bite us in the nice person. (Note: I personally have no problem at all with the current price of gasoline.)

P.S. I am well aware that neither conservatives nor liberals have a monopoly on complaining about the price of gas. It's just funny when people who purport to uphold the traditional values, of which capitalism is one, of the US complain so much when it doesn't work in their favor.

 

Gas has dropped in the Allentown, Pa area to $2.88. Hope it keeps dropping.

It's come "down" to the $3.30s in LA, from nearly $3.50 a coupla weeks ago. It hasn't slowed down my neighbor who uses his remote start to start his Subruban, and let it run for 15 minures before leaving. No its not winter, its 75° in LA. Go figure. I don't know how high it has to get for people to finally "get it".

You probably aren't aware that many things have controlled prices... such as milk (if you can drink the stuff)... the subsidies and price supports and farm bills have all worked to separate the average American from the true cost of almost anything.

Yes, entitlement thinking is very bad. Realizing that it is much more widespread is very important.

 

$3.05 here. I bought mine when gas was 2.19 I knew it was gonna keep going up. People said I wouldn't make back the cost diffrence with the gas prices. How short sided of them..My daughter bought a Infinity F45 now she looks at my Prius with lust in her eyes. LOL

 

I just returned from Costco in Folsom Ca. It was 3.13 a gallon. However i didnt NEED to fill up and I was scared to see the line.
